Dear colleagues,

On October 3, we announced relocation plans scheduled to take place at the Stanford Redwood City (SRWC) campus in 2026. Since then, the project team presented space assignment recommendations to the Executive Committee for approval. This email provides an update on the space allocation plans and phase one building assignments.

Phase one space allocation and building assignments

Our goal is to create a workplace environment that fosters a sense of community, supports sustainability, and is adaptable to our distributed work culture. Space assignments were determined based on historical utilization, using card reader data collected over the past few years, a review of current work agreements, and considerations of any unique needs from departments/units. 

Relocations will affect every department, and the transition period will move fast. Similar to the game Tetris, the process requires careful strategic planning, as relocating one group allows for the movement of another. Due to the complexity, the moves will be completed in two phases. The first set of moves is expected to start in March 2026 and be completed by the end of May. The second phase is scheduled to begin in June and is expected to be completed by August.

When we return from the winter closure, the project team will continue to work with school/unit Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG) members to finalize move plans. We anticipate sharing details about the move schedule in early February.

Your feedback is important

Thank you for sharing your questions with the SRWC Operations and project team. Your input keeps the project team informed of concerns and other issues. Since October, we have received many questions regarding the Cardinal Cafe. We are pleased to report that the cafe will remain available even after Cardinal Hall is vacated. There isn’t an ideal time to implement relocations, and it's essential to understand that some moves may occur during busy operational periods. The project team will collaborate with SAG members to identify ways to mitigate the disruption. We encourage you to share your ideas directly with your SAG representatives to identify solutions that support your team.
