Join Champlain College and the U.S. Department of Justice for a free, one-day conference on March 10th outlining key current cyber threats to organizations of all sizes, as well as what tactics you should be using to prepare and to respond to those threats.
The conference will also include guidance on how to proceed when you are targeted - and conversations about real-life scenarios we've faced here in Vermont and lessons learned from organizations across the country.
Presenters will include representatives from local organizations as well as government experts from the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice and Vermont investigators, as well as Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan and Burlington Electric CEO Neale Lunderville.
Conference sessions include:
  • The Changing Threat Landscape
  • Incident Preparedness: The Shift from Cyber-Defense to Cyber-Survival
  • Incident Response: Government Expectations and Cooperation
  • Case Studies Highlighting Experiences of Local Organizations
The Understanding Digital Threats Conference: A Cybersecurity Briefing for Businesses and Non-Profits will be held Friday, March 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Champlain Room at the Center for Communication and Creative Media.
The Elevator Pitch is Back for Its 10th Year of Promoting Good Ideas!
Semi-finals of the 10th Annual Elevator Pitch will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to determine the 18 finalists going forward to the March 7, 2017 Finals in Alumni Auditorium. The largest-ever number of competitors is expected this year from all divisions and classes, according to Pat Boera of the Career Collaborative, which, along with BYOBiz, coordinates the event.
Students compete in three categories: Job/Internship Seeker, Nonprofit/Social Advocate, and Entrepreneur. In the finals, winners in each category earn cash prizes of $500 for first place; $300 for second place; and $100 for third place. The audience also gets to vote electronically for the "audience choice" winner in each category.
The first entrepreneur category winner was Russell Martin and he is back this year as a judge. Special thanks to our new lead sponsor - Heritage Automotive Group. Learn more about the event here.

Caitlin Douglass '14 G'16 Shares Stories from the Alumni India Trip
Caitlin Douglass '14 G'16, and a group of fellow alumni recently traveled to India on a Champlian-organized service trip. Caitlin shared their adventures in a blog she created. Read more here .

"One of my favorite parts of traveling extends beyond the sights one can see and includes not just the diversity of people's ideas, but trying to have a greater understanding of their motivations and perspectives. I find so much of the emotion that drives us to be excited to return home stems from our own ideals and views butting up against that of the culture we're confronted with." - Caitlin
