Dear Eagle Nation,

As the semester approaches its conclusion, we take a moment to reflect on the significant milestones achieved as a community. This academic year, Coppin State University welcomed its largest incoming cohort in 14 years, celebrated the civic engagement of our students who exercised their right to vote, highlighted faculty who continue to receive national acclaim for their innovative research, and earned recognition as one of the top HBCUs delivering exceptional returns on investment.
As we transition into the final weeks of the semester, our focus shifts to academic excellence and preparation for final exams. Students are encouraged to utilize the Final Exam Reading Day on Wednesday, December 11, as a dedicated opportunity to prepare and study for exams.
Although these weeks may present challenges, they also offer an opportunity to showcase your perseverance, commitment, and the hard work you have invested throughout the semester. I encourage you to focus on thorough preparation, prioritize your well-being, and make use of available resources, such as tutoring services and wellness programs.
Let us collectively strive for a strong finish to this semester. Together, we are advancing a legacy of excellence and achievement.
Best of luck as you prepare for your final exams.

(left to right): Tyler Fullwood, recent Coppin grad and Admissions Counselor; Deidre Johnson, Director of Scholarship Programs and Stewardship; Johnny Gent; Ginny Gent; President Jenkins
The Gent Family Scholarship Endowment supports students in their academic pursuits, regardless of major, by providing financial aid to those with a minimum GPA of 2.2.
Johnny Gent, with a BS and MS in Mining Engineering from The Colorado School of Mines, had a 35-year career as a drilling engineer, holding various management positions, including VP of Drilling. Now retired, Johnny serves on the board of directors for the Limb Preservation Society.
Ginny Gent, holding a BS and MS in Geology from The Colorado School of Mines, has worked as a computer programmer, teacher, and geologist over her 33-year career. She volunteers as a geologist for the Denver Museum of Natural History and serves as a trustee for the Rock Mountain Association of Geologists.
Their commitment to education and community service is reflected in their two children, who have pursued advanced degrees in Engineering. The Gent Family Scholarship Endowment honors Johnny and Ginny's educational and professional journeys, empowering future generations to pursue their dreams and supporting the next generation of leaders and innovators.
I am honored to have them apart of the Eagle family.
