It is with bittersweet hearts that we say goodbye to Sarah Chisholm, who has been a bright light as a nutrition educator with Extension Brown County since 2018. Over the past eight years, Sarah brought joy, fun, and wonder to food education for community members of all ages. She truly loved leading the StrongBodies program, helping local residents build strength and wellness. Sarah also worked with incredible dedication alongside the Oneida Nation, beautifully connecting healthy eating practices with rich cultural traditions. The entire Extension crew will miss her deeply and wishes Sarah the absolute best in her next exciting adventure!

Test Your Pressure Canner for FREE!

Pressure canning is a safe way to preserve meats, low-acid fruits and vegetables (e.g. green beans, corn, carrots), and most mixtures of foods (e.g. chili, stews). It is recommended to test your pressure canning gauge yearly to ensure it's accurate and in good condition for creating safely-preserved food.
Need your pressure canner tested? Extension Brown County offers free testing of National, Magic Seal, Maid of Honor, and Presto dial gauges (weighted gauges do not need testing). Book an appointment via our online scheduling system or give us a call at 920‑391‑4610.

| Know the current moisture percentage of your fields and time harvest properly based on the storage type you have on your farm (silos, piles, etc.).
Bring in 4-5 stalks cut at normal chopping height. Stalks should be gathered, bundled and tagged with the following: name, address, phone, email, variety, planting date, BMR (Yes or No) fungicide, and previous crop.
Each farm can submit two free samples and additional samples are $15 each.

Corn Silage Dry Down Monitoring |

Harvesting corn for silage at the correct whole plant moisture is the first step to making high quality silage, and with some drought-stressed fields across Northeast Wisconsin, it's especially important to get the timing right.
The Corn Silage Dry Down Monitoring Tool provides monitoring of whole corn plant moisture, planting dates, and hybrid relative maturity, helping farmers, crop advisors, and agricultural researchers to make data-driven decisions regarding proper corn silage harvest to meet farm forage quality goals.

Meetings will be 10am-1pm, followed by an optional SnapPlus V3 training from 1-2:30pm. For those planning to attend the SnapPlus V3 training, please bring a laptop.

Master Naturalist Training |
Master Naturalist volunteer training is a series of sessions and field experiences that presents a consistent, statewide perspective on Wisconsin’s natural history, ecological processes, and conservation issues. Each training is unique based on the location, field experiences and guest experts, but the key concepts remain consistent from training to training.
Participants will work in small groups to complete a small training project related to education/interpretation, stewardship, or citizen-science. Once trained, Wisconsin Master Naturalists record 40 hours of service and 8 hours of advanced training each year to maintain certification and receive a recognition pin. Open to ages 18 and up.
Sessions available July-October 2026
In-person training locations available across the state.
Registration is $300; includes all training materials and a year-long membership with the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin. Food and lodging not included unless otherwise stated.

| Small Ruminants Workshop: Parasite Patrol |
Parasite Patrol is a workshop designed to give sheep and goat producers (or project members!) a deeper understanding of what is happening inside their animals and how to respond effectively.
Workshop participants walk through the life cycle of gastrointestinal nematodes, building critical awareness of when animals are most at risk, and explore how anthelmintic resistance develops and why many operations are seeing reduced dewormer effectiveness.
