The end of the PHE, currently anticipated to be January 15, 2023, will discontinue both the continuous coverage policy and the added state reimbursements. The process of “unwinding” the policies created under the PHE and resuming “regular operations” brings a great deal of uncertainty for health care providers and for Medicaid recipients.
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council's new fact sheet describes how the HCH community should prepare for Medicaid redeterminations as part of the PHE unwinding. Click the button below to learn more.

Addressing Cognition in Medical Respite Care

Addressing cognitive impairment within medical respite care programs can be challenging. Within the respite setting, identifying and accommodating cognitive impairment can be difficult while still focusing on a person's recovery. This challenge increases when considering and adapting for the different types of cognitive impairment, such as traumatic brain injury or dementia, which require different approaches for care.
To help programs address cognitive impairment, the National Institute for Medical Respite Care will host a two-part webinar series in October on cognition. The first webinar (October 18) will provide a general overview of cognition and cognitive impairment related to people experiencing homelessness; the second webinar (October 25) will focus specifically on identification of and strategies to address dementia within the medical respite setting.

Intimate Partner Violence, Homelessness, and Behavioral Health: New Webinar and Toolkit

The second Wednesday of October is nationally recognized as Health Cares About Domestic Violence (HCADV) Day, designed to offer education about the critical importance of universal education to promote healthy relationships, address the health impact of abuse, and offer warm referrals to domestic violence advocates.
In recognition of HCADV Day, Health Partners on IPV + Exploitation and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council are excited to release a new toolkit, Intimate Partner Violence, Homelessness, and Behavioral Health, developed for HCH health centers and their community-based partners. The toolkit addresses the intersections of intimate partner violence (IPV), human trafficking, homelessness, behavioral health, and gender.
As part of HCADV Day, the Council will host a webinar on Wednesday, October 12, to provide an overview of the new toolkit and a deeper look at how organizations can authentically engage consumer leaders in the effort to end homeless, IPV, and human trafficking.

Share Your Insight: Race to Lead Survey 2022

The Council has been continually focused on helping our community foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in their organizations, beginning with learning collaboratives in 2018. An important tool that has helped the nonprofit sector understand the dimensions of the dynamics of race and leadership in nonprofit organizations has been the Race to Lead survey, which is an initiative of the Building Movement Project. We encourage you to distribute this survey and ask all your staff to complete it. It takes about 30-40 minutes, and is a valuable use of time.
The link for the survey has a report from the previous (2019) survey and other reports. We hope that many of your staff will be able to contribute their experiences and insights to the Race to Lead survey.
