The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has forced the South African deciduous fruit industry to present its annual awards digitally this year.
“Earlier this year we almost cancelled the event, but felt that despite the COVID-19 outbreak, the industry as an essential service, needs to acknowledge hard work, skills development and community involvement that are all key to a successful season,” said Jacques Jordaan, chairman of the awards committee and CEO of the Canning Fruit Producers’ Association.
“We decided to announce the winners in a press release and have virtual event that replaces the 45th gala evening."
Putting together an awards ceremony virtually, during a pandemic, was a challenge. But, we are proud to bring you the first ever digital Deciduous Fruit Industry Gala Awards, presented by Ivor Price.
We take our hats off to all the deserving winners: Alexander “Boetie” Kriel, Dirk Louw, Rudowaan Isaacs, Lance du Toit, Lizma van Zyl, Colleen Goosen, Phyllis Burger and Andries Daniels.
Please join us by watching and celebrating the deciduous fruit industry and its amazing people in 2020.
