Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Propose Revisions to Requirements for Discharge Planning for Hospitals
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have released a proposed rule that would revise the discharge planning requirements for hospitals, including long-term care hospitals and inpatient rehabilitation facilities, critical access hospitals, and home health agencies. In the proposed rule, hospitals are encouraged to consider non-traditional health care services in their discharge planning, as well as to explore the availability of supportive housing as an alternative to homeless shelters for unstably housed patients. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services welcome comments on the proposed revisions and encourage members of the medical respite care community to respond. To be assured consideration, comments must be received by January 4, 2016.
