Message from the President

By Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld President, Hebrew College

It's hard to believe that in three short weeks, we will begin the next, exciting chapter for Hebrew College. Together, we dreamed. We collaborated. We strategized. We fundraised. We planned. And, along the way, we said some extra prayers to reach this milestone.
Thanks to our generous donors and the leadership and dedication of our extraordinary Capital Campaign Chairs, Beverly Bavly, Nancy Kaplan Belsky, Myra Snyder, Susan Schechter, Diane Troderman, and Andy Offit, our new home is awaiting our arrival on January 3, 2023. We look forward to putting up mezuzot on the doorposts of our new spaces, filling the campus with the voices and creativity of our students, faculty, and staff, and continuing our mission to reimagine Jewish learning and leadership for an interconnected world, making our lives more meaningful, our communities more vibrant, and our world more whole.
We can't wait for you to visit us at our new address—1860 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02466—and to join us on this next step of our journey!

In just two weeks, on December 20, Hebrew College students, faculty, staff, and alumni will gather to walk our Sifrei Torah the 3.5 miles from their current home in the Beit Midrash at 160 Herrick Road to their new home in the Mascott Beit Midrash on our new shared campus at 1860 Washington Street.
The new space will be a home for intensive chavruta study, community-building, and prayer for our rabbinical and cantorial students on weekdays. During the evenings and on weekends, it will serve as an open beit midrash space for the greater Jewish community, providing a sacred gathering place for our adult and teen learners.
|
| The Mascott Beit Midrash was generously named by Brad and Terrie Bloom in honor of Faye Mascott Goldberg, Anna Root and Leo Mascott, and Ida and Solle Root.

TEMPLE REYIM
"We are eager to fill the beautiful, new, and refreshed physical spaces on our shared campus with the energy and unique mission of each of the partner organizations. We are grateful for the ongoing commitment that Hebrew College has demonstrated throughout this process, and one of the most powerful demonstrations has been through contributions made to the College's Capital Campaign. That support is not purely financial—knowing we have the support we need to look ahead with excitement and confidence positions the leaders of our partner organizations to approach our work together with creativity and intention. We're now only weeks away from another new beginning in this process, with the best still yet to come!" — Josh Langer, Temple Reyim Co-President

Over the past two-and-a-half years, the Artist Beit Midrash has engaged 55 Boston-area Jewish artists of different mediums in powerful text study, group conversations, and personal exploration of the creative process as Jewish spiritual practice. None of this would have been possible without the close collaboration between Hebrew College and Jewish Arts Collaborative (JArts). JArts staff and volunteer leaders worked alongside Hebrew College's Rabbi Shoshana Meira Friedman `14 to envision and champion the program, and have continued to play an integral role in its success.
