Dumplin' by Julie Murphy
"Willowdean, 'cashier, Dolly Parton enthusiast, and resident fat girl,' is comfortable in her skin. She has a best friend, a job at Harpy’s Burgers & Dogs, and a secret crush on her cute coworker Bo. This year, as Clover City is gearing up for the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet beauty pageant, Willowdean loses her footing. She is less sure and secure as everything around her changes; her best friend makes a new friend, and she finds out that Bo likes her too. In order to boost her self-esteem and take back control, she enters the pageant and starts a revolution. This upbeat, empowering award-winning teen novel had me laughing and crying, and when I got to the end I started it all over again."
