Open Call for 2019 Art Exhibitions

Applications Due August 31
The library is a place where people, ideas and knowledge come together. It calls for a different kind of exhibition space where ideas meet action. BPL invites proposals for projects that intertwine visual display, socially engaged art and/or installations with a live program, interactivity and collaborative happenings.  Presentations in the gallery are as much about process as product and we want visitors to be engaged in all levels.  Multidisciplinary groups are encouraged to plan and apply together.

The Sweaters of Sam Barsky

The Sweaters of Sam Barsky & Yarn-fiti

Wish You Were Here: The Sweaters of Sam Barsky
Through Oct 14. Maryland artist and Internet sensation Sam Barsky knits sweaters of iconic landmarks and then photographs himself wearing his work at those locations. For this exhibition of sweaters and travel photos, Barsky created Boulder-specific sweaters, which patrons will be able to “check out” and wear for their own selfie moment at local sites. Sweaters check out for 24 hours; checkout runs Mon-Fri from noon to 2 pm in the Canyon Gallery, with a library card.

Recommended Read
The Library Book by Susan Orlean
"The main character in this wonderful narrative work of non-fiction is the Los Angeles Public Library, specifically its gorgeous central library. The author interweaves stories of the library's history, of the catastrophic 1986 fire that nearly destroyed it and the man who was accused of setting that fire, and of the daily life of its current staff and patrons. The result is a love letter to all libraries. Put your hold on this one now--it comes out in October!"
--Terzah, Collection Development
Library Stories
"I'm enjoying the library so much. I think my TV died from lack of use." -George Reynolds Branch Patron
"Several kids and teens stopped me in the library after the two-day TCS Coding Boot Camp [where they worked on app design], to tell me about new developments on their apps, new ideas to fix 'bugs' in the community, and to ask when the next bootcamp will be." -Kathy, BPL Programs Events & Outreach
"This is a great addition to our neighborhood! We often put books on hold and pick them up here, but they also have a nice selection for a small little library. The librarians are very nice and welcoming." -NoBo Patron
Many of our events are generously funded by the
Boulder Library Foundation.
