The Toronto District School Board is always proud to highlight the achievements of students and staff. Below are a few moments from June 2019:
BOARD MEETING NOTES
French-as-a-Second-Language Program Review [3689]
The Board approved the recommendations on the findings of the French-as-a-Second-Language program review. Trustees also asked that stakeholders be broadly consulted on the:
  • implementation plan for the new model of two entry points; and
  • minimum and maximum cap for the entry points.
The Director will also report back to the Board in October 2019 for approval of the next steps regarding the:
  • core French action plan;
  • implementation of a proposed transportation plan;
  • development of a redistribution plan for French immersion programs to improve equity of access; and
  • revision of operational procedure, PR597, French Immersion/Extended French.
Secondary Program Review [3688]

Trustees approved the action plan for secondary school programs.

The action plan is intended to develop and implement a new vision for secondary school programming that aligns with the Board’s commitment to equity, the goals and actions of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the Guiding Principles of the Long-Term Program and Accommodation Strategy and responds to student voice.
Interim Expectations for Parent/Family Engagement in the School Improvement Process
The Board received the proposed 2019/2020 interim expectations for parent/family.

On March 20, 2019, the Board received a report which outlined a consultation process for the development of interim expectations until related policy statements could be developed through the formal review of P023 Parent and Community Engagement. Feedback gathered from the consultations informed the development of the expectations, which will focus on:
  • explaining the school improvement process and the value of family involvement in it; and
  • seeking feedback from families on the school’s goals and multiple interpretations of the school’s wellbeing and achievement data.
P051, Caring and Safe Schools Policy Phase 5 [3663]

Trustees approved the revisions to P051, Caring and Safe Schools Policy.

Public consultations were carried out from January 17 to April 30, 2019 and included focus group meetings with Community Advisory Committee (CAC) representatives and student focus groups from across the TDSB, facilitated by Student Equity Program Advisors (SEPA). The draft Policy and an accompanying survey were also posted on the TDSB public website for 103 days and received 271 responses. The feedback obtained through all consultations was reviewed and is reflected in the revised policy.
Next Board Meeting
The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.
