I've had my COVID booster shot!
We’re so excited to see your gorgeous masked face again as you start the spring semester on Monday! The faculty and staff are ready and we trust you are too!

A number of final details before we head to the semester starting line:

Pre-arrival Testing

You are strongly encouraged, though not required, to take a pre-arrival test (on your own), if possible. If the test is positive, please isolate at home, contact your county health department, and email Health and Counseling with the date of the positive test and list any symptoms you had and the date they started, health@naz.edu. Student Accessibility Services will work closely with Health and Counseling to ensure that students who need to isolate maintain access to classes and educational requirements. If your test is negative, please keep the results for your own records.

Masks and Visitors

The indoor mask requirement continues for everyone on campus. Experts suggest wearing a snug fitting N95 respirator or KN95 mask. Recent research finds that double masking — a disposable surgical mask covered by a cloth mask — offers more protection than either one alone.

Guests coming to a large event on campus? Check out the updated visitor/spectator policies. Additionally, we will be checking the IDs of faculty, staff, and students at campus events, so make sure to have your NazCard ID on you.

Boosters

As shared last week, faculty, staff, and students are required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot to support the health and safety of our community. Boosters must be received and documented no later than February 5, 2022, or as soon as you are eligible.
Vaxxed and boosted — done and done!
Great! Thank you. Make sure you upload a photo of your booster vaccine card, and enter the booster date, under Immunizations in the student health portal. MAKE SURE the photo of your card shows your name and date of birth or we can't process it and you will be considered non-compliant. Warning: Using a forged card is a felony crime.
EEK! I haven’t gotten a chance to get my booster yet!!
We’ve got you covered. Nazareth, in conjunction with Wegmans pharmacy, will have two on-campus vaccine clinics, January 24 and February 4. Nazareth students, employees, alumni, and family members ages 18 and older are welcome to get the booster from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Schedule an appointment now. Vaccine booster shots are also available throughout Monroe County and across the country

I’d like to apply for a religious or medical exemption to the booster.
Nazareth will grant limited religious and medical exemptions, consistent with applicable law. Please email health@naz.edu to request an exemption form and submit it by January 24. Students who have exemptions to vaccination and/or the booster will be required to comply with the weekly surveillance testing requirement.

Failure to comply with weekly surveillance testing for unvaccinated/unboosted students will be referred to Student Conduct and a $250 fee will be charged to the student account per missed week of testing. If the fee grows to $750 a hold will be placed that prevents future class registration, housing selection, official transcripts, receipt of your diploma, and participation in graduation. Additional fees will continue to accrue beyond $750 until a student complies with protocols.

Isolation

Updated January 2022: If you test positive for COVID-19, isolation is NOW a minimum of 5 days. You will be released on day 5 upon receipt of a negative rapid antigen test, or after a full 10-day isolation as long as you have been fever free for 24 hours (without medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen) and your symptoms are generally improving.
  • If your rapid antigen test on Day 5 is positive, you remain in isolation. You may take a second rapid antigen test on Day 7.
  • If the Day 7 test is negative, you can be released from isolation.
  • If the Day 7 test is positive, you must complete the full 10-day isolation period.
Testing is available at:
  • Shults (1924 Room): Mondays and Tuesdays noon - 1 p.m.
  • Health and Counseling Services: Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - noon, and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
If Day 5 or Day 7 falls on a non-business day (weekend or holiday), you can use an at-home test (that you have purchased) or be tested at one of the county testing sites (free). Naz is working to secure rapid tests for use by students who are in on-campus isolation space. If you have questions about the timing of your test(s), please email health@naz.edu.
Students, email your test results to health@naz.edu

Extended Office Hours

In preparation for the start of the semester on Monday, the offices of Academic Advisement, Center for Student Success, Financial Aid, Registrar, Residential Life, Student Accessibility Services, and Student Accounts will have staff available on Sunday, January 16, from noon - 2 p.m. Please see details for how to connect with these offices at that time.

MLK Day Commemoration

Nazareth is holding its annual Martin Luther King  Jr. Day commemoration on Monday, January 17, the first day of the spring semester. Classes will be suspended from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. to allow the entire campus to attend. There is also a streaming option.

This year's theme, Reconciling the Dream: Transforming Communities Through Restorative Justice centers around community-building. Keynote speakers Elaine Spaul and Nolica Murray from The Center for Youth will share a case study of how their innovative Bridge to Peace program has successfully integrated restorative practices.

The commemoration will feature performances by Nazareth student recipients of the 2021-22 MLK Creative Expression Awards
