| We're days away from the official start of summer and temps are rising. And, so is the energy in Normal!
Bloomington-Normal and Illinois State University host the Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games June 20-22. That means our streets, hotels, shops and restaurants will be busy. Thank you for welcoming these visitors and showing off our great community spirit. Enjoy the rest of June and its "easy like Sunday morning" feeling.

Then prepare for the "hot fun in the summertime" that's headed our way! Check out the information below about Make Music Normal and Parks and Rec month, both happening in July!
As a reminder, Town of Normal offices are closed June 19 in honor of Juneteenth. Garbage and recycling will be collected per usual schedules. We appreciate your patience with missed brush. Crews are currently running a bit behind on brush collection due to the large volume of brush being placed curbside.

On June 16, the Council approved updates to the playground and shelter on the west side of Anderson Park. The existing playground was originally installed in 2004. Demolition is slated to begin in late August, with installation to follow upon delivery of new equipment. Poured-in-place surfacing will be installed following the playground installation. Site improvements also include new sidewalks for accessibility.

On June 16, the Normal Town Council also took the following actions:
|
- Renewed an agreement for services from the McLean County Regional Planning Commission
- Established industrial pretreatment sewer regulations
- Amended the Town of Normal Zoning Code, providing clarity and minor adjustments
-
Adopted an ordinance phasing out short-term rentals in single-family residential areas. (The action includes an exception for units that are the primary residence of the owner for at least nine months per year.)

| More than 63,000 people attended public swimming hours at Town of Normal aquatic centers in 2024.

The Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council is conducting a comprehensive childcare study to better understand the needs and challenges facing families, providers, and employers in our community. As part of this effort, they developed three targeted surveys to gather input from these stakeholder groups.
