New VA Enrollment Verification Process

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is implementing a monthly enrollment verification requirement for Post-9/11 GI Bill® Students. Students must verify their enrollment at the end of each month and those who fail to verify their enrollment for two consecutive months will have their Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and kicker payments put on hold.

Students with active enrollments at Non-College Degree (NCD) facilities have already started verifying their enrollment, and students with active enrollments at Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) facilities will begin verifying for terms starting on or after December 17, 2021.

Read the full blog here to learn more about monthly enrollment verification.

Mental Health Resources

Duke has on-campus and virtual resources for mental health that can be accessed at any time. Please do not hesitate to contact the Duke Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) by either downloading the Blue Devils Care App or by calling the front desk at (919) 660-1000 between the hours of 8:00AM and 5:00PM.*
*Only students who have paid the Duke Student Health fee are eligible for CAPS and Telehealth services through Blue Devils Care. If you are a student that has not paid the health services fee, you may contact DukeReach for support in locating a provider.
If you or someone you know is having a difficult time dealing with the recent events of Kabul and Afghanistan, or simply want to talk to someone, VA also has resources and tools to help:
Veterans Health Administration mental health services, including how family members can assist a Veteran in crisis
Veterans Crisis Line: Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 press 1 or text 838255
Vet Center resources are also available and include counseling; there is also a toll-free number: 877-WAR-VETS.

Office Hours

The Office of Student Veterans will hold office hours each Monday from 10:00AM-2:00PM and Friday from 10:00AM-2:00PM in the Crowell Building on East Campus.
Additionally, the Office of Student Veterans will be engaging with the broader Duke University community by holding additional office hours on West Campus Thursdays from 11:00AM-1:00PM on the ground level of the Bryan Center. Stop by with a bite to eat or a cup of coffee and have a chat about veterans' issues.

Join the Student Veteran Council!

Our graduate assistant Nic will be convening a Student Veteran Council this semester to connect with the student veterans from across campus. If you are interested in representing your school or program, please reach out and let him know!
