WLN E-Newsletter Spring 2018 WLN Super Heroes of Service for MLK Day Thank you to the 57 Women's Leadership Network (WLN) members and their children who spent the morning of January 15 volunteering for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service! Volunteers sorted and packed food at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, created little free libraries for our education pilot project, and assembled literacy kits that included the locally authored book, “Superheroes of Service: An Immigrant Story”. The author, Ulysse Toussaint, even joined us for the event! Ulysse wrote “Superheroes of Service: An Immigrant Story”, after experiencing the overwhelming love, kindness, compassion and support that was shown after the 2010 earthquake that ravaged his home country of Haiti. The mission of the book is to promote service learning and civic mindedness, fight bullying and encourage creative thinking. This is not just a book, this is an inspiration to make service a lifestyle.  WLN believes strongly in making our community better through philanthropy and volunteerism. We are thrilled to provide the opportunity for parents to volunteer alongside their children, showing the next generation how to use their superpowers to help others. Help Us Celebrate WLN! Join us for the Women’s Leadership Network’s (WLN) 2018 New Members Reception on Tuesday, May 1 at the beautiful Purcell Friendship Hall on the campus of the Milton Hershey School. You’ll have the opportunity to network, meet our new chair, Jill Walmer, vice president of operations at Highmark Blue Shield, and celebrate WLN’s accomplishments over the last year. Tours of the Dearden House will also be available. We encourage you to bring along someone who might be interested in joining WLN. Every WLN member who brings a prospect will be entered into a raffle basket that includes a private backstage tour of the ABC 27 Studio. Formal invitations will be sent in early April.  WLN New Members Reception Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Location: Purcell Friendship Hall at Milton Hershey School Breakfast Bag Items Needed! Women’s Leadership network will once again join forces with The Foundation for Enhancing Communities’ Women’s Fund to pack Breakfast Bags for local children who are involved in summer feeding programs.  In preparation for the packing event, we’re looking for companies to hold collection drives for needed items. If your company would like to hold a drive, please contact Heidi Neuhaus, director of the Volunteer Center, at hneuhaus@uwcr.org. In April you will receive information on the breakfast bag packing event and a link to sign up.  Thank you for helping us ensure children do not go hungry this summer. 2018 WLN Calendar Mark your calendars for the following Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) events in 2018.
