We are Women Who Make a Difference

More than 150 Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) members and prospects joined us for the August Conversations with Women Who Make a Difference event which featured a panel discussion on women in media. We heard from three dynamic personalities, Valerie Pritchett from ABC27, Jen Shade from 105.7 the X, and Katie Meyer from WITF. They shared their insights on staying relevant in today’s ever-changing media landscape as well as challenges and successes they have faced throughout their careers.

Vino and Volunteering Event

More than 60 Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) members and prospects enjoyed a fun evening of networking and volunteering at our first ever “Vino and Volunteering” event in October.

Attendees assembled more than 300 dental and family health kits while enjoying some delicious food and beverages at Little Bird Craft Kitchen in Camp Hill. The kits will be distributed by local health clinics participating in our Contact to Care pilot project which helps individuals access health care.

WLN members volunteered at Geisinger Holy Spirit Medical Outreach at Christ Lutheran Church on Day of Caring and saw first-hand the need for these health kits in our community. Hundreds of families in our community need basic health care items like allergy medicine and digital thermometers.

Our Contact to Care community pilot project employs community health workers to help individuals navigate the health care system, overcome barriers to care and connect with a primary medical home. The project has already helped 274 individuals obtain medical insurance and connected 306 individuals with a primary medical home. For more information on Contact to Care visit our website

A Reason to Be Thankful!

For the fourth year in a row, Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) members made Thanksgiving a little brighter for local families in need.

WLN members completed two volunteer projects over the Thanksgiving holiday.

For the first project, volunteers gathered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to prepare side dishes for a Thanksgiving meal. Attendees had a blast working with a volunteer chef to make sweet potato pies, mashed potatoes and other delicious items for a Thanksgiving meal for residents and staff at Catholic Charities Interfaith Shelter.

For the second project, volunteers helped New Hope Ministries at their Lemoyne and Mechanicsburg locations with the charity’s annual Thanksgiving food distribution. In addition to packing and organizing food donations, volunteers also helped families shop for all of the necessities to prepare a Thanksgiving meal. They even helped families load their items into their vehicles. More than 600 families were served that day!

Thank you to all who participated. You truly made a difference in the lives of these families!

Save the Date for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Help us make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a day on, not a day off!

On Monday, January 21, 2019, Women’s Leadership Network members are invited to join us for one of two volunteer projects for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Projects are:

•  Working at Capital Area Head Start to create a craft for teachers to use with young readers. Volunteers will also assemble packets for the Head Start’s educational programs.

•  Sorting and packing items in the warehouse at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

MLK Day is a great opportunity to show our children the importance of giving back. Most of these projects are family friendly. Please see age requirements when signing up.

You will receive a link to sign up in early January.
