Letter from the Editor

Hello Roos! I'd like to thank all of you for your continued readership and interest in the School of Education Newsletter. It has been a particular joy to serve our education majors by providing them with critical information and links to services outside the scope of what we offer here in Student Services. Unfortunately this will be the last newsletter of the semester, but we will return in the Spring!

Stress Less Fest Fall 2019!

The Stress Less Fest is an annual tradition for students to relieve stress before finals including massage therapy, group exercise, arts and crafts,and the signature Late Night Breakfast on Thursday, December 5th. Join us for the following events:
Student Union Activities - December 4-6 & 9-11, Free popcorn and soda from 9-11 pm; December 4-5 & 9-11 Free Coffee at Jazzman's after 9 pm
Campus Recreation Activities - Group Fitness Classes throughtout Stress Less Fest - information available HERE
December 4 - Shrink Your Stress 11 am -1 pm; Student Union 2nd floor
Ornament Decorating 2 pm - 3:30 pm; Student Union 401B
December 5 - Puppies and Pilates 6:30 am & 12:30 pm; Swinney Recreation Center (Pre-Registration Required)

UMKC Competitive Scholarship Application 2019-2020

UMKC's NEW Competetive Scholarship Application is now live! Complete your application by March 1st, 2020 to be automatically entered for any and all scholarships for which you are eligible. Additionally, academic works will notify you if you are eligible for a scholarship, but are missing an application component like a resume or letters of reference. Some scholarships also require completion of FAFSA, so submit your application by February 3rd for priority consideration!  

RooEval for Fall 2019

Evaluations for Fall 2019 courses are now available through RooEval, the campus-wide system for course evaluations. Course evaluations are essential to University faculty and administrators when making determinations about personnel and course offerings. Please take some time to complete evaluations for your courses by December 7th. Your feedback is  important; evaluations are the best way to make your voice heard!

Scheduling an Advising Appointment with Connect

Academic advising is one of the many services the School of Education offers its majors. Instructions for scheduling an advising appointment on UMKC Connect can be found here! Graduate students are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisors; you can find yours here! 
*Remember* Education majors have required advising and must meet with their advisor for a semester check-in before they are able to enroll!

Kangaroo Pantry 2019

Located at 4825 Troost Ave, Rm. 103, the Kangaroo Food Pantry strives to provide food assistance to UMKC students, faculty or staff members in need. The organization relies on donations from the KC community and is always looking for new volunteers.
If you or someone you know are in need of food assistance, the Pantry can be accessed with minimal sign-up and University ID requirements. You can access the First Time User Information Form and guidelines through their webpage. The Pantry can also help users apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and find other food pantries or assistance organizations in the Kansas City area.

Flu Shots at Student Health!!!!!   Now
Flu season is upon us and you can't afford to be sick! Get ahead of the game and make your way over to Student Health and Wellness for your Flu shot. Vaccination cost $18 for students. Appointments can be made over the phone (816-235-6133) and email (studenthealth@umkc.edu), or Login with your University SSO and schedule an appointment online!
Pearson Vouchers for Education Professional Assessments Fall 2019
Student Services has received financial vouchers from Pearson for the Missouri Content Assessment (MoCA) and Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA). These financial vouchers are meant to help students who cannot afford their assessments and are
limited to one per student. For information on assessments, visit the MEGA site, then make your request here!
