The College of Business hosted the annual Homer L. Hitt Presidential Distinguished Lecture Series Wednesday, April 19, which featured former New Orleans Saint Marques Colston. Before the VIP reception and evening lecture, Colston spent time with graduating seniors discussing his game-changing methodology of “Creating Separation," the shift that propelled him to overcome adversity and experience unattainable accomplishments as an unlikely NFL superstar as well as an owner, partner and investor. Colston stayed for questions, photos and autographs.

Alumni, community stakeholders and UNO faculty and staff gathered at 5:30 p.m. outside the Grand Ballroom at the University Center for the VIP Reception before the evening fireside chat featuring Colston.

COBA dean Dr. Pam Kennett-Hensel served as moderator in the fireside chat with Marcus Colston for the evening lecture, presented by the College of Business Administration and the UNO Founder’s Club. Colston gave an in-depth discussion on his methodology, “Creating a Separation is a Mindset” and encouraged the audience to actively anticipate and participate in challenges and opportunities and learn to adjust midstream. A special thank you goes out to Marques Colston for his time spent with the College of Business students, faculty and staff!

UNO provost Dr. Darrell Kruger and COBA dean Dr. Pam Kennett-Hensel greeted students and families on April 2 for the Honors Convocation. Outstanding academic achievements of 176 students were recognized. After the ceremony, students and their families celebrated at the President’s Reception at the Merrick Latter & Blum Patio.

| COBA Launches New Management Concentration
|
To address the increasing needs for more sophisticated professionals in Supply Chain, Operations and Logistics (ScOL), the Department of Management and Marketing now offers a specialized concentration within the management major degree.
UNO students will study a conceptual ScOL foundation and its applications to various disciplines in business, nonprofits and governments in the competitive national and global economy. This newly-created ScOL concentration will support the UNO Strategic Plan highlighting “shipping and international” as one of the five priority clusters as well as the State of Louisiana’s efforts highlighting the role of Supply Chain Management in positioning the state as the long-term economic engine (Office of the Governor, Aug. 11, 2022).

Peter Mayer Advertising participated in the Spotlight the Employer on Wednesday, March 22. Michelle Novakoske, Account Director, discussed the many aspects of marketing that the Peter Mayer agency handles and how it uses data to help brands navigate change. Students were amazed at what data can do when applied to marketing.

| Business Career Coaching Center Hosts Spring Business Career Fair
|
The spring Business Career Coaching Center (BCCC) career fair was a huge success. The fair took place on Thursday, April 13 with 17 companies, government agencies and non-profits attending. More than 200 students had an opportunity to meet with representatives and review internship and employment opportunities.

| Randy Kerns, Associate Professor, Healthcare Management, was invited to speak at The Louisiana School Nurse Association annual conference and the Southeastern Spring Injury Symposium: Innovations of Injury Care Prevention.

| Chris Ray, owner of Ramey Agency, was a guest speaker for Dr. Elyria Kemp’s strategic marketing class.
Chris shared with students the strategic approaches the Ramey Agency has taken in building premium brands.

Matt Gresham, Chief of Governmental Relations for the Port of New Orleans came to speak to COBA’s Management classes about the status of the Port and what it means to work in logistics. Gresham explained the effects the pandemic had on businesses in the Port and what it had taken to get them back on track. Gresham also discussed the future of the Port and about the jobs available to students and graduates of UNO.

Mr. Kevin Dolliole, MBA '98, CEO of the New Orleans airport, participated in Management Week and discussed his vision for the new airport with students.

| | UNO Police Chief Rondeno visited the Business Communication Oral class to discuss emergency communication. He explained the Rave app that lets students be directly connected to emergency communication options.
The class was split into two teams and each were given a fictional scenario of an emergency campus situation. The student teams prepared a preliminary news release. Rondeno’s lecture and exercise helped students understand the basics of emergency communication.

P.J. Sibille, vice president of marketing communications at LCMC, spoke to the Strategic Marketing Decisions in Health Care class about environmental design and how LCMC is working to create impactful and "extraordinary" moments throughout the spaces and buildings of LCMC healthcare providers.

HOST Names Adams Director of HSE
|
T. Parker Host (HOST) announced it has appointed Jarred Adams '04 & '21 as its new director of health, safety and environment (HSE). Adams is a native of the New Orleans region and brings with him more than a decade of experience developing standardized safety systems and programs to strengthen workplace safety.
