Welcome      Grow       Serve      Celebrate

New Thing Sunday

Sunday, June 25th we celebrated “New Thing Sunday,” which was a challenge from our Bishop Sharma Lewis to plan and conduct the worship service solely by laity, to do a “New Thing,” and also give our pastors a much-deserved break before beginning the new Conference year.

Well, it certainly was a “New Thing,” without a Parkway Hills pastor in sight!  Over a dozen of our members had roles in the service, and just about everybody participated through the Table Sharing portion of the service. Favorite hymns were sung, mission and stewardship moments were shared, and our Lay Leader, Alan Branson, gave a moving testimony as to “what it means to be Church.”

Small table groups came up with a list of things that “get you fired up about Church.” These were documented and will be discussed by the PHUMC Leadership Board. We want to do more of those things!

Throughout the service (especially during the table discussions) the theme of Togetherness and Community emerged. It seems our motto “We do best the things we do together” fits us perfectly.

New Thing Sunday reminds us that we are all the Church, and we all have roles God wants us to play in our community of faith. We will, however, be happy to turn Sunday mornings back over to the Pros!

We are aiding with feeding the Camp Wesley Pines staff Sunday, July 2 at 5:30. We are in charge of desserts and drinks. Click the link and signup to bring something to help feed and thank the camp counselors at Camp Wesley Pines. Please have your items in the church kitchen by noon Sunday, July 2.
Parkway Hills is a United Methodist congregation committed to being a place for everyone, so we want to pay particular attention to inviting members of our community who may have been affected by church disaffiliations or those who simply are looking for a safe place to worship. How can you help? Invite your friends to church, and share this welcome video that has beenposted across Parkway Hills' Facebook and Instagram. Your voice matters in welcoming our community!
