Throughout our 6-week series, "Rethink Miracles", we will be introducing you to some of the men and women who are served by Grace Place. For many of them, it was their first opportunity to have a portrait made. As you hear the stories they share, look for the face of God, look for the face of Grace, and look for ways you can be part of a miracle.

I kept to myself growing up. I did hang out with some guys in school but mostly I stayed away from all the ruckus they caused. My Mamma made me go to church. One Sunday I bucked her about it and she got this big ole board after me. I never did buck going to church again.
I stay on Oakley Street. It just takes a little money to stay there. The guys at the club down the street give me a little work cleaning up. It ain’t much but it is enough to pay rent. It’s a good club. We aren’t racists there. Anybody can come whoever they are. We just get along and go on and have a little fun. I like the whites who pray for me and I pray for them.
I played football in high school. I was a wide receiver. I did not learn much from the books but I liked football. I still stay to myself, except for at the club down the street. The guys there are ok and they help me out.
My dream is to have some money so I can do some things for myself and do some things for others…you know, like buy some belongings. My mother, she passed. She was a sweet lady. She kept me clean and took good care of the babies. If I could tell her anything it is that I still love her.
A new monthly men's group begins this coming Tuesday, August 22nd, (and will continue meeting on every 4th Tuesday of each month), to compare and contrast Methodist theological foundations to those of other denominations. Additionally, guests of different faiths will be invited to share so we can better understand our own beliefs and those of others. The group will gather at 6:30 pm in Ronnie Musgrove's home. Lively engagement and deeper connections will be on tap!  All men are welcome.
His Kitchen will be back in business on September 18th! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this ministry, here's the scoop:  Each week, an order form is available, (in our newsletter and on the His Kitchen facebook page), with a variety of main dish casseroles, salads and sides from which to choose.  On Monday morning, a group meets in the church kitchen to prepare the food that has been ordered. (They also make a few extra casseroles for those on our prayer list, to feed hungry people in our community, or for us to freeze to keep on hand for emergencies that arise - what a blessing that is!)  Another crew facilitates pick-up and payment in the church kitchen between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Want to help? Contact Haley Dollarhide. This is a win for each customer, (Ta-daah! Dinner is ready!) and for our church, because here is the really exciting part: all profits from this ministry are given to support the missions of PHUMC!  To get a taste of some of their menu items, please plan to join us for Wednesday Retreat Night on September 13th, when His Kitchen will prepare our Wednesday night meal!
Shoe, Clothing & Coat Drive Continues
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Our donation pile is growing so quickly, we've decided to deliver what we've collected so far to Grace Place next Wednesday, August 23rd. (If you would like to go with us, meet in the PHUMC parking lot at 7:45 am - we'll pack up, then drive together to arrive at Grace Place by 8:30 am.) Remember, while ALL contributions are appreciated, Grace Place says their most pressing needs are for men's clothing, expecially jeans in sizes 32 through 38, and comfortable walking shoes, size 10½ and larger. Our clothing drive continues until September 10th. Thank you for generously showing God's love to all those on the margins.

Acolyte Training this Sunday, August 20th and next Sunday, August 27th at 9:35 am in the Sanctuary.

Clearly, the threat of "liquid sunshine" did not cast a shadow on the smiles of all who attended the youth pool party last Sunday. It was a great time!
