Hebrew College's Soul Sounds Concert Series is Back!
This spring Hebrew College will host performers Neta & Stav, Ezekiel’s Wheels, and Jacob’s Ladder for our Soul Sounds concert series with dates in February, March, and May. “We are thrilled to welcome three dynamic, Boston-based ensembles to explore Jewish ritual and prayer in our collaborative concert series,” says Hebrew College Rosh Tefillah and Artist-in-Residence Rabbi Jessica-Kate Meyer, who programs each Soul Sounds season. From an immersive performance combining Israeli hip-hop and dance, to contemporary klezmer, to a trio blending American roots music with Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditions, our spring concerts present an opportunity to revel in the depth and variety of Jewish cultural expression. WINTER ART EXHIBIT OPENING

Reuven Rubin: Interpretations of King David
Beginning January 28, Hebrew College’s winter art exhibit will showcase a lithographic series by renowned 20th Century Israeli artist Reuven Rubin, depicting the life and times of King David. From the dramatic coronation of the young shepherd-turned-king to the end of his reign, the series brings the epic story of King David to life through Rubin's distinctive style. Rubin's interpretation reflects the artist's experiences and perspectives as a Romanian-born immigrant to pre-’48 Palestine who lived through the birth of the modern Jewish state and helped define the creative aesthetic of the young country’s arts scene. "What's so remarkable about these works is the way Rubin was able to capture the essence of these timeless biblical narratives," says Deb Feinstein, trustee and chair of Hebrew College’s Arts Committee.

How to Live Amidst Alienation and Exile
This week’s Torah portion, Parashat Veyechi, describes the end of Jacob’s life. After living his adult life in the land of his ancestors, Jacob spends his final days in Egypt, reunited with Joseph and his family in peace. In Egypt, distanced from the pain of Jacob’s family struggles—with his brother Esav, his father-in-law Lavan, and his embattled children—Jacob stops chasing after blessings, and starts giving them. In this new place, even in galut outside of Land of Israel, Jacob is able to live fully because he is able to connect with the Source of Life.
