Finding Your PACE: Developing Applied Skills Through Your Course |

|
This two-part workshop series from Miami Integrated Learning Office (MILO) and the CTE will help faculty identify meaningful opportunities to develop MILE Applied Skills through existing course work. Using the research-grounded PACE framework (Process-skill Alignment and Course Exploration), participants will examine where Applied Skills fit their courses and consider practical ways to strengthen student development without wholesale course redesign. Participation in Part 1 is required to join Part 2.

Submit a CTE major teaching project grant proposal ($3,000). These grants encourage curricular and pedagogical innovations that result in more engaged and improved student learning. Innovations may be at the course, department, division, and/or university levels.

Syllabus vs. Course Guide: Guidelines for Public Syllabus Posting at Miami |
With the implementation of the "Simple Syllabus" in accordance with the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act (SB1), the language about course documents has changed. The term "syllabus" now refers only to the succinct course information posted on Simple Syllabus. The document on Canvas that supports your students’ learning in your course is now called a “Course Guide.” Watch for updated language in CTE webpages, coming soon.

New Journal Issue Showcases Innovative Teaching |
The new issue of the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching (Vol. 37.3, 2026) includes eight articles designed to inform teaching approaches (service-learning, popular culture courses), promote student engagement (class discussion, social support), and address emerging trends in higher education (alternative assessment, neuroscience-informed teaching). Lunch and Learn on Neurodivergence and Accessibility |
Join the Strategic Ohio Council on Higher Education (SOCHE) for a virtual lunch and learn, "Rethinking Readiness: Faculty Practices for Course Accessibility," on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 12 p.m. ET via Zoom. This session will be presented by Dr. Megan Dinnesen and Alexandria Grant from Mount St. Joseph University.
Creating accessible learning experiences benefits all students, especially those who are neurodivergent. In this practical session, participants will explore strategies for building accessibility into both online and in-person courses through improved course organization, student engagement, and assessment practices.
