Signing Up For Your Space

By now, you should have logged into your My Housing account to see your 24-hour selection time slot. Time slots are randomly assigned across all new students, and available spaces will be evenly distributed across all time slots to make the process fair to all. Students who do not select a space will be randomly assigned a space for fall 2021.

Spaces for new students will be limited in certain neighborhoods across campus. East and Brody neighborhoods will have the most spaces available for students who are not in a living-learning community. If you want more than one roommate, we recommend Akers Hall, which offers quads. North Hubbard tower is now available for student room selection. South Hubbard will be reserved for quarantine and isolation housing.

There are plenty of ways you can explore our neighborhoods and halls as you prepare to make your room selection! These videos showcase each neighborhood. Be sure to check out our 360-degree room tours, which provide a look at each room type in all our neighborhoods.

Need more info on the room selection process? This video breaks it down. Don't forget to visit Eat at State and review your dining plan options too!

How to sign-up:
  1. To start the sign-up process, log in to your My Housing account during your assigned 24-hour sign-up window.

  2. Once in the system, you will see the spaces available for your time period. We highly recommend selecting from spaces you see, especially if you have a roommate. Do not wait to come back and look for other spaces later.

  3. If you do not select a space during your 24-hour period, or have a roommate select a space for you, your fall assignment will be made by the Housing Assignments Office.

If you are signing up with a roommate, the student completing housing sign-up will need the other’s roommate code and MSU email, along with their dining plan selection. Students create roommate codes in their My Housing account. Please note, the ability to choose suitemates will be very limited.

Signing Up With a Roommate

A big part of the college experience is living with a roommate! MSU has partnered with My College Roomie to offer roommate matching for incoming and current Spartans. Keep an eye out for an email from My College Roomie, which is specifically tailored for Michigan State University students and is offered to Spartans free of charge. Click here to learn more. If you do not select a roommate, check your My Housing account in July to find out who your new roommate will be!
