Move out: What you need to know

bryant.edu/reopening Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 We have just 10 days remaining until fall classes end on Nov. 16, followed by final exams. Since reopening Bryant’s campus in August, our goal has been to complete the semester in person together while keeping everyone safe and healthy. We are all working hard to finish strong. So far Bryant has conducted more than 55,000 COVID tests with a very low positivity rate below 0.1% (.08%). Our 7-day moving average remains very low, even with the rise in cases in RI and nationally. Our chains of transmissions are limited and well controlled through contact tracing and quarantine protocols in compliance with best practices and the Rhode Island Department of Health and we have quarantine space available if needed. Over the past week COVID-19 cases in RI, across the country and around the world have continued to climb. To mitigate the risk of COVID-19 at Bryant and in our communities, we have asked everyone to renew their pledge and commitment to doing their part to staying healthy and exercising community-minded good judgement including masking, social distance and avoiding unprotected gatherings. This week we made extra testing available for members of the community who travelled off campus and/or may have had concerns about the safety of voting. When the semester began we made a commitment to provide extra surveillance testing at the end of the fall term as a resource to help ensure students return home healthy and safe. The extra testing will be available for students starting next week. Scheduling details have been emailed to students directly and are below. Student testing through Nov. 24 In advance of their departure from campus, students who are currently testing once per week will have the opportunity to transition to testing twice weekly starting next week, our last full week of classes, until they depart from campus. A final COVID test is required within 24 hours before student departure. To avoid overcrowding in the MAC Testing Center, starting on Monday, November 9, the student test schedule will be: First-year students: Mondays and Fridays Sophomores and Juniors: Tuesdays and Thursdays Seniors: Mondays and Wednesdays If your test schedule does not align with your planned departure date to give you a test within 24 hours of when you will leave, you can use the COVID Bookings app to schedule an alternate time. MAC Testing Center hours are Monday-Wednesday, 8am-6:30pm, and 8am-4:30pm on Thursday and Friday. International Education Week Continues Saturday On Saturday, Bryant’s Center for Student Leadership and Involvement partners with International Affairs for a Late Night Event starting at 7 p.m. Mask up and visit the Heritage Room for virtual globe tours, personalized luggage tags and make your own stress balls. Nov. 10: Paths to Recovery Panel 3, Fintech and the Future of Finance and Banking Fintech businesses have been at the forefront of the digital revolution in the financial sector and are pushing traditional institutions to keep up. Unlike traditional institutions, Fintech companies are more likely to be digital, agile and modern. The speed and breath of technological change in recent years, however, marks a dramatic shift. Bryant's Nov. 10 panel will address issues such as who will win the battle for bank customers - traditional banks or the tech titans? Fall Residence Hall Closing Information To assist students and families in planning for the end of the fall semester, here is what to expect: Resident students will receive an email from Residential Life with specific closing information during the second week in November. Resident Assistants will hold virtual Zoom floor/building meetings the week of November 8-14 to review closing information, answer questions and have students designate their planned departure date. All students must vacate their residence hall no later than 24 hours after their last final exam and no later than 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Only students who reside in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites will need to move-out completely. All students living on campus may keep belongings in their room over the winter break but will not be able to access their room over the break. We encourage students to bring any items they may need over the break home. Items that are frequently forgotten include text books, laptops, medications, passports/IDs and eyeglasses/contact lenses. Students are permitted to have two family members assist with their move-out. Family members should complete the Health Checker App to enter campus and must wear a mask and practice social distancing while on campus and in the residence halls. To avoid density, families are expected to adhere to a three-hour timeframe from their arrival to completion of the move-out process. In January, students will receive details regarding scheduling their move-in appointment for the Spring 2021 semester. As currently planned, students will select a move-in date from Saturday, Feb. 6, Sunday, Feb. 7, or Monday, Feb. 8. All students will have a three-hour time frame to move-in and can bring two family members to assist. It's not too late to register for remote Wintersession Registration for Wintersession remains open and students are encouraged to keep learning and take advantage of both sessions, Dec. 3-22 and Jan. 4-22. The modified schedule provides a chance to accelerate degree completion and expand learning interests. Winter classes will be fully remote and at reduced tuition. Applications for Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant and 4MILE Peer Counselor The Division of Student Affairs has several leadership opportunities available for students to apply for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. All applications are open as of today, Nov. 6. Orientation Leader Resident Assistant 4MILE Peer Counselor and Program Assistant The Office of Student Events and Orientation Programs is looking to hire 16 Orientation Leaders (OLs). The OLs help to welcome, inform and guide new students and families through Orientation, virtual summer programming, Welcome Week, Bulldog Beginnings weekly programming in the Fall semester, Family and Friends Weekend, and January Orientation. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28. The Office of Residential Life is currently seeking Resident Assistants (RAs) for next year. RAs help create an inclusive and welcoming environment in the residence halls on campus, while also implementing fun and educational programming. The deadline to apply is Jan. 15. 4MILE (Multicultural and International Leadership Experience) is a cultural and leadership program uniquely designed for incoming international and domestic multicultural students. 4MILE Peer Counselors serve as a mentor, facilitator and resource to the incoming international and domestic multicultural students.
