View of Boston from Medford/Somerville campus
Hello Tufts Jumbo,
We hope you enjoyed meeting some of our staff members last week! This week, it's all about location, location, location. We're going to show you spots in the greater Boston area, introduce you to Medford, Somerville, and the Fenway, and show you some of the most-visited places on campus. We hope you enjoy the tour!

This Week's News and Announcements

The Big Picture: City of Boston

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, and it has one of the country's richest histories. The Freedom Trail is likely the city's most popular attraction, and Boston also boasts a large number of museums and theaters, several professional sports teams, and a number of attractions that are FREE to the public -- especially if they have a Tufts ID!
Boston also has dozens of colleges and universities that call it home. Take a look at some of your neighbors!

Closer Up: Cities of Medford and Somerville

The majority of Tufts undergraduates live and take courses on our Medford/Somerville campus. We're actually split right down the middle by these two cities and enjoy the benefits of being part of two local communities!
The City of Medford is just north of Boston proper and was founded the same year, 1630. Somerville is considered an actual Boston neighborhood, and it has tons of popular restaurants and attractions, many of which are located just down College Avenue in Davis Square!

Closer Up: The Fenway

Most BFA and MFA students live and take the majority of their courses on our Fenway campus. Students, faculty, and staff can take the SMFA Shuttle between Medford/Somerville and the Fenway. We have an app to make tracking the Shuttle easier, and students can use Lyft after hours between buildings at the SMFA.
The Fenway is a unique neighborhood in Boston, full of shops and restaurants, and right nextdoor to Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox. Besides being neighbors with the Museum of Fine Arts, SMFA students also enjoy close proximity to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, one of Boston's most beautiful places!

Zoom In: Take the Tufts "Insider" Tour

You've seen pictures of the Tufts campus. Maybe you took a tour. But there are plenty of places and spaces on campus that you haven't visited yet. Here's a sneak peek of some of our favorite spots, including dining spaces and good places to study!

"Where Is It On Campus?"

Did you know? Tufts has campuses in downtown Boston, as well as in Grafton, Massachusetts. The University is a big place, even for those sticking close to Medford/Somerville and the Fenway. Here's a quick list of key places that you're likely to visit when you first arrive:
  • Residence Halls - We have 10 Residence Halls reserved for first-year students on the Medford/Somerville campus. We offer brief descriptions of each, as well as floor plans.
  • Tisch Library - Looking for a place to study? The Tisch Library not only has the books, periodicals, and databases you'll need for coursework, it's also filled with individual and group study spaces.
  • Mayer Campus Center - Hungry? Thirsty? Looking for a place to relax, hang out, have a meeting, or connect with friends? The Mayer Campus Center is a central meeting space for students on the Medford/Somerville campus.
  • 230 Fenway Atrium - The SMFA campus is housed almost entirely at 230 The Fenway, and our Atrium is where a lot of students, faculty, and staff come together to meet, eat, and share their work.
  • Tisch Sports Center - We recently remodelled our Fitness Center. Students enjoy access to exercise equipment, a pool, and places to practice a large variety of Club Sports.
  • Health Service and Counseling and Mental Health Service - We provide a variety of services and supports to students, from prescriptions to lab work to assistance with sleep or stress. We're here to help and are located just on the edge of the Medford/Somerville campus. SMFA students also have services located directly on the Fenway campus.

Here's What's Coming Up Next . . .
