Schulich welcomes more than 700 new graduates who returned to campus for their in-person convocation bringing our total Schulich Global Alumni Network to over 34,000 strong, with 93 alumni chapters in 62 countries. At this celebration, the class of 2022 heard from business leader, diversity champion and mentor, Frank Vettese (BBA '86, MBA '91) Co-Founder, SummitNorth and formerly Managing Partner and Chief Executive, Deloitte who received an honorary doctorate during the ceremony. Welcome Back Class of 2020 and 2021!

We were delighted to welcome the classes of 2020 and 2021 back to campus for a celebration of their achievements during a historically challenging time. In separate ceremonies for the undergraduates and masters programs, alumni had the chance to walk the stage with their classmates and professors while also hearing from some outstanding alumni speakers. Pam Laycock (MBA ’89) Executive-in-Residence and President, Schulich Global Alumni Network and Senior Vice President, Chief of Staff, Torstar Corporation addressed undergraduate alumni and Dennis Mitchell (MBA ‘03), CEO and CIO of Starlight Capital addressed our masters alumni. Schulich gathered to commemorate Research Day 2022, a biennial showcase that celebrates the innovative research and creative achievements of researchers at Schulich.
Dirk Matten, Schulich’s Associate Dean of Research, the host of the event, framed the purpose of the day at the outset: “After more than two years of the pandemic, it is time for the Schulich community to come together and think collaboratively about the future delivery of our research, but also about future areas for research in the school.”
The event kicked off with a thought-provoking plenary discussion titled “The Purpose, Scope, and Impact of Research in a Business School,” featuring Impakt CEO, Paul Klein, Dean Zwick, and Associate Professors Ela Veresiu (BBA '09) and Ruodan Shao (pictured above.) Following the panel were expert conversations on hot topics in the business world and concluding the day was the announcement of the Dean's Research Impact awards. The Economist magazine ranked the Schulich MBA program #1 in Canada and 40th in the world in the magazine’s annual survey of the world’s top 100 MBA programs.

CIBC Establishes New Research Chair in Sustainable Finance

| Joining forces to advance research in the emerging field of sustainable finance, the Schulich School of Business and CIBC have recently announced the establishment of the new CIBC Chair in Sustainable Finance, through CIBC’s $1.25 million investment. “This partnership underscores our bank’s commitment to support clients in transitioning to the low-carbon economy while accelerating our actions aimed at addressing climate change,” said Roman Dubczak (MBA ’87), Managing Director and Head, Global Investment Banking, CIBC Capital Markets.
“The new CIBC Chair will undertake groundbreaking research that will help guide businesses and policymakers in their efforts to shift to a low-carbon economy,” says Dean Detlev Zwick. “The CIBC Chair will also address the unmet need for the education and training of industry practitioners in the rapidly growing field of sustainable finance.” Read more

Schulich Donors Help Shape the Future of Next Generation Business Leaders

On June 10, Ananya Kakkar (iBBA ’22) proudly crossed the convocation stage along with more than 700 fellow Schulich graduands. Ananya is the 2021-2022 recipient of the Bernard M. Wolf Prize of Excellence in the Certificate in International Management, established by Professor of Economics and International Business Professor, Bernie Wolf to recognize a graduating undergraduate student who has pursued the Certificate in International Management Program (CIM) at Schulich and received the highest academic standing.
“It’s moments like these that push and encourage students to continue growing. I’ll be sure to leverage this award to keep developing my global capabilities as I embark on my career beyond Schulich,” shared Ananya.

Arts, Media & Entertainment (AM&E) Alumni Celebrate Successes at the Annual Dinner

AM&E alumni gathered on campus last month for the annual AM&E Alumni Dinner with Ken Rogers and Trina McQueen, O.C., Co-Directors of the Arts, Media & Entertainment Management Program, and Joyce Zemans, C.M., Senior Scholar; University Professor Emerita. Meeting in person after two years of virtual events, alumni, faculty and staff were delighted to reconnect face-to-face and celebrate the continuing success of the program.
The celebration included the announcement of the inaugural Joyce Zemans Award recipeints, Yuqi Li (MBA '22) and Christopher Webb (MBA '22) whose dedication, leadership, and achievements in the media sector were recognized. Schulich alumnae, students, and prospective students gathered for the annual Women in Business Networking Event on June 21. A part of Schulich’s commitment to diversity, the event featured keynote speaker, Sasha Krstic (IMBA ’03), President of Mastercard Canada (pictured right) as well as a panel of Schulich Alumnae. “Schulich contains an exceptional wealth of thinking in the different areas that make up business,” said Krstic. “For current students, this is an incredible time to build skill sets, knowledge, and networks. Schulich is your toolbox.”

The Busy Beaver Burrows its Way to Schulich

On June 22, donors and artists gathered for some fun under the sun to celebrate the completion of the art collection at the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building with the unveiling of the Busy Beaver. Emblematic of the School’s commitment to working hard and striving for excellence, the Busy Beaver, an interactive sculpture created by Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins, can be found in the George Svec (MBA ’69) and Katherine Meaney Svec Courtyard.
