Important Changes to Registration in Spring 2024 |
|
|
Dear Student,
You've made your voices heard: we are pleased to announce that we will be piloting a new registration procedure for AS&E undergraduates for fall 2024 class registration.
This change comes after receiving significant student and faculty feedback on the current registration model and was devised by a cross-school working group with representatives from the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering, the School for the Museum of Fine Arts, the Office of Undergraduate Education, and the Office of the Registrar.
This revised registration process detailed below will address student and faculty concerns with the existing model and increase equity in access to courses across all three undergraduate populations, while preserving priority access for SOE and SMFA students for those courses essential to their degree progress.
|
What do we hope to accomplish through these changes? |
The undergraduate registration pilot program seeks to:
|
- Address student concerns about the inherent disadvantage that Arts and Sciences undergraduates in the BA and BS degree programs have in registering for courses
- Allow for the enrollment of a more diverse mix of students from various programs in high-demand courses
- Retain priority access for undergraduate Engineering and SMFA students for courses essential to their degree progress
|
How and when will I register for fall 2024 courses?
|
Here are the main points:
|
- Graduate, certificate, and post-bac students will see no changes in their registration times or processes and will register on the first day of registration, Monday, April 8.
-
SOE undergraduates will have a pre-registration day giving them early access and the opportunity to register for most engineering and selected STEM-based A&S classes on Tuesday, April 9, preserving the opportunity to enroll in time-sensitive courses required for successful degree progress. Registration on this day will be in order by class year (seniors, juniors, sophomores, first-years). Undergraduate engineers will register for all other courses with their AS&E class cohort. More information will follow during the advising period for engineers on the logistics of pre-registration and how to determine which courses will be available for pre-registration.
-
BFA and BFA+BA/BS combined degree undergraduates will register for courses on the same day as their class cohort but during the earliest registration time available that day to allow them priority in recognition of their commuting requirements. Courses with the BFA Studio Art attribute will be reserved for BFA and BFA+BA/BS combined degree students for the week of registration and the following week, as they currently are now. These classes will open to all students for registration on April 22 as space allows.
- ROTC and NEC dual degree undergraduates will register for all their courses on the same day as their class cohort but at the earliest registration time available during that day to account for travel times between campuses.
- A&S undergraduates will register on successive days by class year, as they have done in the past.
|
After the April 9 pre-registration day for SOE undergraduates, all AS&E undergraduates will complete registration with their class cohort, with each student receiving a randomly assigned registration time in SIS, on the following dates:
|
- April 11: Rising seniors and fifth-years
- April 12: Rising juniors
-
April 16: Rising sophomores or second-semester first-years
|
Other important steps for all undergraduates |
We are excited to roll out this new pilot process in the coming weeks and believe it will offer an enhanced experience for undergraduate students. If you have questions or need support during registration, contact Student Services at studentservices@tufts.edu or by calling 617-627-2000 on Monday through Friday at 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Sincerely,
Carmen Lowe
