Scholarships:

Scholarship applications for students in the School of Computing are now open. There are many opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The deadline to apply for many opportunities, is March 1, 2023. Be sure to check out the opportunities below:
Study Abroad Fair Poster

Study Abroad Fair:

Don’t miss the Study Abroad Fair, Tuesday October, 18. Make sure to check out the School of Computing’s Swiss Summer Exchange, a two-way exchange of student cohorts from both GVSU and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). You can earn up to 12 credits in 4 weeks studying in Switzerland and in Michigan for less than the cost of a semester living in Allendale. 
Computing Club

Computing Clubs:

Women in Computing acts as a support network and resource for women in technology by providing many social, academic, professional development, community outreach, and network opportunities. Some of their activities include homework help for students new to the School of Computing, a fall career panel with guest employers, game nights, coding workshops for github, discord bots, and more. 
Women in Computing meets weekly on Wednesday from 6-7pm in Kirkhof, Room 1142.  
The CIS Computing Club has a couple great opportunities this fall to meet and connect with some of our amazing professors. On October 20th, Professor Rafiq plans to talk about his research, interests, and tips for interviews. Pizza and other food will be served.  On November 3rd Professor Dowling is coming to discuss her research in visual analytics. She will be giving demonstrations for some of the interactive visualizations that she helped develop, as well as discussing some of the ways that visual analytics research incorporates ideas from lots of other areas including statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, interface and interaction design, cognitive psychology, and more.  
Computing Club meets Thursdays at 6 pm in the EOS Lab (MAK A-1-105).

Computing Seminar Series 

Come listen to guest speaker, Joshua Engelsma, Ph.D. Computer Science and Engineering, and GVSU Computing alum, give a seminar on biometric fingerprinting and cybersecurity. Dr. Engelsma’s research is in the area of fingerprint recognition and has worked on a number of problems including spoof detection, representation learning, encrypted matching, infant recognition, fingerphoto matching, system evaluations, and synthesis. The seminar will be held on November 4 at 2:30 pm in DCIH 445. 

Are you Registered?

If you haven’t registered for your Winter 2023 classes, now is the time to get enrolled. The School of Computing is looking at enrollement to determine, what classes are needed.
