JENNIFER OHMAN, The 2018 Alumni Service Award Recipient

Alumni Service Award Recipient

Jennifer Ohman, '02 & '16, is this year's Alumni Service Award Recipient for demonstrating outstanding service to the university and the Alumni Association. She's earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a doctor of nursing practice degree from Kirkhof College of Nursing. She is a Nurse Practitioner at LifeCircles PACE, or Program for All Inclusive Care of the Elderly.
Ohman has been a KCON Magazine advisory board member, GVSU Graduate Student Association member, and KCON Graduate Student Association board member. She is a regular volunteer for the GVSU Alumni Association and is also the KCON Alumni Board vice president of education and special events.
Thank you, Jennifer, for all that you do for Grand Valley and your fellow alumni!

Become a Leader Within the Alumni Association

Looking for a way to get involved? Consider joining the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Board members act as representatives for the Alumni Association, which helps alumni stay informed, get involved, give back, and have Laker pride. Applications for the Board of Directors are due no later than June 30, 2018.

The Young Alumni Council (YAC) is another great way to make a difference. The YAC is the voice of GVSU young alumni, creating and planning multiple events throughout the year. Applications for the YAC are due no later than May 31, 2018.

The Third Annual Coach Meerman Golf Outing

Join us Saturday, May 26, at the Scott Lake Golf Course in Comstock Park to celebrate the life of Coach Jim Meerman, while raising money to help grow his scholarship at Grand Valley! 
The Coach Meerman Memorial Scholarship helps walk-on student athletes complete their degrees at Grand Valley, while also providing asssitance to Coopersville seniors attending GVSU. While at GVSU, Coach Meerman played football from 1977-81.

More than 3,000 Grand Valley students participated in commencement ceremonies April 27 and 28 at Van Andel Arena. Congratulations to all of these Lakers and welcome to the alumni family!

Arnold Recieves AP Achievement Award

Damon Arnold, director for academic services for student athletes, received the Administrative Professional Achievement Award at the annual AP Luncheon on April 10.
Arnold oversees the Laker Academic Success Center; he was recognized for being a mentor to many student athletes and for establishing innovative programs within the center.

GVSU Softball Clinch GLIAC Regular Season Title

The #10-nationally ranked Grand Valley State softball team took two from the Ashland Eagles on Sunday afternoon (April 29) by scores of 3-0 and 6-1. With the completion of game two in the doubleheader, the Lakers were officially crowned as the 2018 GLIAC Regular Season Champions.

Lakers Earn 16th Consecutive NCAA Tournament Berth

The NCAA Division II Men's Golf committee has announced the selections for the 2018 NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional and Grand Valley State has earned the #1 seed in the Midwest Region. With the selection, the Lakers have now appeared in 16 consecutive NCAA Tournament's and 19 overall appearances in program history.

Detroit couple increases scholarships to working families, Grand Valley students

Hundreds of students at Grand Valley State University will get a financial boost thanks to the generosity of a Detroit area couple and their foundation. Bob and Ellen Thompson are increasing their investment in student success by expanding the Thompson Working Family Scholarship Program. This program is aimed at helping students who come from families who, despite working hard, cannot fund a child's college education.
