Welcome to the October edition of the Warrior Family Association newsletter. It is an exciting time to be a Warrior and we've enjoyed many student events over the last few weeks. Some of them are highlighted below.
I want to share a great opportunity with you to help your student prepare for a career after graduation. On Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 13 and 14, 2020, the Indiana Tech Career Center will be hosting a "Get Equipped" program for freshmen through seniors to help them prepare students for their lives after college. The program will be held on the two days before classes start in the spring, and resident students will be permitted to return early to attend the program. Please review the agenda at the link below and encourage your student to attend!

Homecoming Recap
We kicked off Homecoming 2019 with Indiana Tech Day of Caring. The fruits of the day’s labors supported United Way initiatives. Projects included preparing emergency meal kits to be distributed to needy members of the community, preparing literacy kits to distribute to the YWCA and Early Childhood Alliance, helping with a landscaping project at Brightpoint Head Start and helping kids with homework at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne.
Homecoming weekend saw hundreds of visitors come to campus to relive college memories, visit students and experience a day as a Warrior. Some highlights from this year’s homecoming included Party on the Square, featuring Flying Houndz Frisbee Dog Show; a ribbon cutting for the track and field stadium and Warrior Athletic Multipurpose Building at Warrior Park; showing of Toy Story 3 in the Magee O’Connor Theater, Dinner & a Show featuring the band, Casual Friday; and Casino Night. More pictures can be found in the Student Life Facebook album.

| Tech Talks
Dr. Cortney Robbins
Tech Talks 2019-20 is all about exploring identity, and this year, Tech Talks is offering several opportunities to explore identity with topics about race, first-generation college students, gender, sexuality, athletics and more. The first event of the year, "I'm First!": First-Generation College Student Lunch, was attended by several students, faculty, staff and alumni. Attendees were able to hear from a first-generation alumnus and network with others who share this identity. T-shirts, proclaiming “I’m First!,” were also given to guests. There is one more Tech Talks event scheduled for this fall, with many more to come this spring:
Film & Discussion: Alone in the Game
Monday, Nov. 18, 7-9 p.m., Magee-O’Connor Theater

Help Tech Crush Hunger
Indiana Tech is participating in the 5th annual “U Can Crush Hunger” friendly competition between area universities to raise food and funds for Community Harvest Food Bank. As we get ready to enter the holidays and winter season, Community Harvest needs our help to meet the needs of food-insecure individuals in our area. Students at Indiana Tech have set a goal to raise 15,000 pounds of food this year. Every dollar collected equals four pounds of food. After the second weigh-in, Indiana Tech was in third place behind Huntington University and the University of Saint Francis. In order to be successful and meet our goal, we need the entire Warrior community to come together and support this initiative. Would you like to help us meet our goal and crush hunger in the community?

Final thoughts from a fellow momThis is my favorite time of year: the crisp air, the color of the leaves and the smells of apple and pumpkin pies all create a feeling of warmth and happiness inside me. It is also the time of the year where I really start missing my two sons who are college students studying in Pennsylvania and Maryland. This is a long stretch for us from the start of the academic year until they come home for Thanksgiving. I look forward to their visit and spending some quality family time together. Speaking of quality time, Karl and I were able to get away for a few days last week to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. We have been blessed with so many happy years.
Also, this month is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Karl has been wearing pink EVERY DAY this month as a part of the Real Men Wear Pink campaign to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Every woman on Karl's mother's side of our family has been affected by breast cancer, including his mother, his sister and numerous aunts and cousins. Follow him on Instagram at "presidentkarleinolf" to see some of the pink he wore this month and check out his Real Men Wear Pink site at https://bit.ly/367jc6e.
