Enroll in Duo Multifactor Authentication |

Dear Colleague,
In continuing efforts to improve the security of campus systems and data, the university will require all retired faculty and staff to begin using Duo multifactor authentication (MFA) to log into KU systems. You may already be using a form of MFA to log in to your bank account or other personal websites.
Logging in with MFA requires something you know and something you have. Something you know is your KU Online ID and password, and something you have is a device. At KU, we will ask you to register a mobile phone or tablet and set that device to receive either push notifications or text message codes from the Duo app.
Beginning July 10, retirees will be added to Duo gradually and will be prompted to enroll in and use MFA when logging into any system that is behind KU’s Single Sign-On system, such as email and HR/Pay.
The rollout of Duo to retired KU employees is expected to take about a month. Sometime during the rollout, you will receive an email a few days before Duo is activated for your account.

What You Can Do to Get Ready |
To ensure a smooth transition to Duo MFA, we encourage you to follow the steps below.
1. Download the Duo Mobile application on your smartphone or tablet:
|
-
Under the Initial Setup section, Duo Enrollment will walk you through what to expect during enrollment.
- Under the Initial Setup section, Authenticate with Duo will show you what to expect when authenticating with Duo Mobile.

KU faculty and staff have been using Duo MFA since 2019, and students have used it since 2024. Multifactor authentication at KU protects your account from unauthorized access by requiring you to confirm your identity with 1) your KU Online ID, 2) a password and 3) a device you have in your possession. This combination makes it much harder for criminals to remotely access your account, even if they steal your password.
Remember: After you start using Duo MFA, never approve a prompt unless you are actively logging in to your account yourself.
For more information about MFA at KU, visit the KU IT website.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the IT Security Office at itsec@ku.edu. You can also call the IT Help Desk at 785-864-8080 or receive in-person support in Anschutz Library, room 201. Check the KU IT website for hours.

Thank you for helping us create a more secure KU!
