Dear Community,
This past weekend, USA Today published an op-ed I wrote that was inspired by something Odessa said recently that stopped me in my tracks. It led to a number of bigger picture thoughts about what we can learn -- what kind of world we want, and how we want to be living -- as we embark on the next phase of this pandemic. Read my USA Today op-ed here.
Also in this week’s newsletter: In 2016 Ken and I made a 12 min film, The Whole Cinemagillah, that we made for an artist-in-residency at The National Museum of American Jewish History tbut never premiered online. The Whole Cinemagillah will premiere online for an amazing all-night event, DAWN, this Thursday night right after Davia Nelson from the acclaimed Kitchen Sisters talks to me about creativity, the pandemic and more. All info below.
This week’s guest baker for our #ZoomChallahBake (like a clambake but with challah) is Dr. Michael Rich from Harvard and The Center on Media & Child Health. He is amazing and while we are kneading dough, we'll be discussing all sorts of things, including the guide he just released for parents on screens and mental health. Also: a great interview with David Pescovitz and Carl Sagan’s wife and daughter Ann Druyan and Sasha Sagan on Science and Ritual in a Time of Flux and an interview I did for the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination; the Bay Area Book Festival’s online events and more.

Ps. And here’s the newest member of our family. Meet Rosalind Franklin (the scientist who never got enough credit for helping discover DNA) --and Rosie the Riveter for short and Rosie for shorter. Her Yiddish name is Schmelke from Nickolsburg.
