Carlos Banks with the Port of Portland was nominated by a PDX employee.
"An elderly passenger was heading to baggage claim from the arrivals level and thought she was getting on the down escalator when she was actually stepping onto the escalator coming up from below. She started to stumble and lose her balance and would have fallen down the escalator if Carlos had not caught her and kept her upright. He then proceeded to escort her to get her bags and find her ride. He went above and beyond and most likely saved her from a serious injury."

International Arrivals: Now through the end of the year, crews will complete demolition work near the International Arrivals area. A pedestrian walkway with barricades and directional signage is in place, along with a secure temporary wall. Before the rainy season, crews will install tents and lighting to keep passengers protected. There are no changes to the bus drop-off location.
|
|
|
|
There's also new furniture in the International Arrivals area, creating more seating for people waiting for travelers. New furniture will also be added post-security in the north concession hall.
Baggage Claim: These airlines have moved from temporary baggage service office spaces into permanent ones.

At PDX, safety and security guide everything we do. To strengthen this commitment, we're implementing employee screening – a proactive approach to managing risks at PDX. With employee screening, our goal is to go beyond compliance and build a strong, collaborative security culture that protects everyone who works at or travels through PDX.
What does this mean for you?
For the majority of employees, it

means that instead of accessing the secure areas of the airport through bypass doors, you will go through a quick screening process in a dedicated employee screening area.
What's the screening process like?
Swipe your badge, place bulky items or bags in a bin for X-ray screening, then walk through the scanner. No need to remove shoes, belts, or outerwear, and no stopping or raising your arms. There will be staff at the screening areas to guide the process, just like at the TSA checkpoints.

This month, we’re welcoming a new member to the Port of Portland Police Department's K9 crew: Chuck!
Chuck is a 5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer and the new partner of Sergeant Greg Stevens. He recently transferred from the Chicago Police Department at O’Hare International Airport and is settling into his new surroundings here at PDX.
You may spot Chuck and Sergeant Stevens out and about as Chuck gets to know the terminal. If you see them, stop by and say hello. Chuck is always happy to make a new friend (and, presumably, conduct a very thorough sniff-spection).
