Hudson Team Keeps the Lights On for Outstanding Customer Service
During February's record-setting snowstorm, our airport was brought to its knees. Businesses across the region were forced to stay closed and roadways were completely clogged, turning a 15-minute commute into five hours. Even at PDX, most businesses were closed or had very limited hours. There were hundreds of stranded passengers with nowhere to go who were hungry, cold and tired.
Through all this, there was a beacon of blue light in the shape of an "H." Hudson Group managed to keep at least two of their stores open day and night, with food, blankets and hoodies for those in need. This was accomplished with the help of brave Uber drivers and a dedicated general manager who spent two days giving people rides in his truck.
Hudson employees never say no to a traveler in need – their passion and commitment is unparalleled, and they truly are a traveler's best friend!

What's New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby and Baggage Claim
Ticket Lobby: Lots of action continues in the ticket lobby with work on electrical, HVAC and fire alarms as well as scissor lifts and demolition noise. In the places where overhead protection went up in the north ticket lobby, signage is being added to help passengers navigate the area. If you want a sneak peek of what’s going on, there’s a great view outside Cha Cha Cha on Concourse D.
Baggage Claim: In International Arrivals, crews are re-routing the path for arriving passengers. On the south end of baggage claim, the employee parking office will move from its current location near the Alaska baggage service office to Level 1 of the parking garage. This change will happen at the end of July, and we’ll share more details as the move date gets closer.

Celebrating 30 Years of the PDX Volunteer Information Program
Cheers to 30 years of volunteers! When the PDX Volunteer Information Program (VIP) launched in 1993, it had just 13 members – today there are more than 100 volunteers. You can find these friendly folks dressed in blue greeting travelers with a smile, answering questions in the information booths and welcoming international visitors.
The numbers tell a story: Over the last three decades, volunteers served 400,000 hours, helped 4,000,000 passengers and answered countless questions including “How do I get my rental car?” and “Can you help me? I’m in Portland, Oregon, but I’m supposed to be in Portland, Maine.” There are eight countries represented and seven different languages spoken by the program members. One volunteer – Bob Edwards – has been with the program since its inception.
The VIPs are champions of our airport – they love this place, and it shows. They're more than just a helpful resource for travelers from all over the world, they're a big part of how PDX makes everyone feel welcome.

Port of Portland's Dave Stanton Shares PDX Perspective on National Safety Month
You've read about (and seen) the impacts as we work to bring you a new main terminal. But did you know there's a whole team of people that make sure construction is done safely – for you, the construction crews and the traveling public?
As we look back on National Safety Month, we caught up with Dave Stanton, the Port of Portland construction safety manager overseeing work on the new main terminal. At the airport, protecting workers and travelers is a 24/7 effort – including weekly and monthly site walks, rescue exercises…and distributing 99,000 pairs of earplugs to help people through the construction noise.

Don't Lose Your Cool, Stay Safe in Hot Weather
There's a heat advisory in effect this week as temperatures could range from 94 to102 degrees.
Be protected: Dress for hot conditions in loose-fitting, light-colored clothes; drink water every 15 minutes to stay hydrated; and take frequent breaks in shady, cool or air-conditioned areas
Stay hydrated: Take a moment to fill up your water bottle before you get to work and stay cool, safe and quenched during your workday. For your convenience, there's a water station at the employee shuttle drop-off spot.
Know your risks: Those working in hot weather may be at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If you see a coworker who is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea (heat exhaustion) or dry, hot skin, confusion and convulsions (heat stroke), act quickly and get help.
For more ways to protect yourself in hot weather, check out this tip sheet. In case of emergency at PDX, call 503-460-4000. For non-emergencies, call 503-460-4747.
Community resources: If you use TriMet to travel, keep an eye on their alerts page, as temperatures above 90 degrees may impact transit operations. Multnomah County lists information for cooling centers on their website or by calling 2-1-1.

Last week, the DoveLewis Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams held their annual appreciation event. Along with serving the community, many of these teams also participate in the PDX dog therapy program. Thank you to all the dogs (and their humans) that volunteer and make our airport welcoming to all!
