TAKING STEPS TO END ALZHEIMER'S

A group of 31 formed the Warm Hearth Village Walk To End Alzheimer’s Team this year.  They raised more than $1500 and many of them joined the annual walk on October 5 to show their support.

Tom Grieve, a family member of a Warm Hearth resident was selected by the Alzheimer’s Association to kick-off the walk this year and his words, no doubt, made an impact on the community.

“It was encouraging to see so many people from different walks of life coming together to end Alzheimer’s disease, ” said Heather Gearhart, Vice-President of Health & Wellness at Warm Hearth Village.

PHYSICAL THERAPY MONTH

This month we celebrate our amazing Physical Therapists (PT) and the success, recovery and dedication of our wonderful clients.
PTs are movement experts who optimize the quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care and patient education. The benefits of Home Health PT are that you receive personalized care within the comfort and safety of your own home, and it is covered by Medicare and private insurances. It can aid in recovery after surgery, or possibly help avoid surgery, as well as reduce the use of opioids to control pain. For more information, please call 540-443-3428.
OFFERING MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING SERVICES TO SENIORS
Last year, Warm Hearth Village began offering counseling for independent living residents thanks to an internship program through the School of Education at Virginia Tech. The service was well received and continues this year with two new interns. Paul Delaughter is a master’s student in Counselor Education and Connie Tomlin is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor working on her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Virginia Tech. They will provide free individual and group counseling sessions as part of their clinical work.
LIFELONG LEARNING EVENING
On Wednesday, October 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Virginia Tech’s Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) and Warm Hearth Village are partnering to provide an evening event with dinner and music and a cash bar.  Held at the Village Center at Warm Hearth, the event will feature a buffet dinner with music by the Henry Downing Band. The cost is $20 per person to be paid upon admission to the event.  If you have questions, contact Susan Bixler at 443-3800 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. or Judy Ridinger at 540-230-1059. We hope to see you there!
