Welcome GVSU's Newest Lakers This Fall
Let's rally together and show our newest Lakers what it's like to be a part of the Grand Valley family! Come out to Allendale during Freshmen Move-In on August 22 and help students get settled into their new homes. You can volunteer from 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m. All volunteers receive a free meal, an exclusive t-shirt, and bottomless water and Gatorade.

Nominations are now open for the Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Educator Award, and Young Alumni Award! These presitgious awards recognize alumni and faculty members who are making outstanding contributions to society and the Grand Valley community. The winners are selected by a panel of members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Share Your Liberal Education Story
Longtime Professor of Philosophy and Liberal Studies, Stephen Rowe, is conducting research on the history of liberal education at GVSU. He is seeking short statements from alumni on "My experience with liberal education at GVSU..." Alumni Volunteer Opportunity
If you are an alum who graduated in or before 1982 and are looking for an opportunity to serve as a Laker for a Lifetime, then GVSU Parking is in need of your help. Share your Laker Effect with the Grand Rapids community by spending a Saturday morning at the 13th Annual Mayors' Grand River Cleanup hosted by the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. The Hauenstein Center has launched a new podcast to discuss finding common ground between conservative and progressive viewpoints on issues including history, politics, culture, the arts, and more. This podcast entitled Common Ground will feature academics, historians, thinkers, and authors.

Grand Valley Recognized for Veteran Support
In June, Grand Valley was honored for its work with the Michigan Veteran Education Initiative. The initiative helps student veterans transition from the military to college life. Grand Valley received gold status — the highest status — from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for its commitment to veterans and dependents of the G.I. Bill.

Representing Laker Blue at Olympic Trials
Three Laker alums competed at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, in early July. Betsy Graney participated in the 3,000M steeplechase, Kristen Hixson competed in the pole vault, and Darien Thorton took part in the hammer throw. All three were Division II National Champions during their GVSU careers, and all three strongly represented Laker blue!
