We've compiled several below, and I encourage you to stay connected with your department and college for even more resources.

We will be hosting a Graduate School Open House on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Please stop by to meet me, along with other members of the Graduate School and our campus partners. This will be a come-and-go reception from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., where you can discuss your graduate experience and get connected to resources to help you throughout your time at UT.

The Graduate School has two new awards this year for graduate student mentors and postdoc mentors. Nominations are initiated by a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar in a letter submitted to a department chair, graduate adviser or faculty member. Learn more and nominate your mentor.

Are you a first-generation graduate student? We invite you to join us during First-Gen Week, the campus-wide initiative that runs Nov. 4-8. Shana Varnell (she/her) is the counselor devoted to graduate students in the Counselors for Academic Residence (CARE) Program, which provides mental health services to students.

Early Voting Happening Now
I strongly encourage eligible grad students to participate in local and presidential elections and make your voice heard. Early voting is happening now through Nov. 1, and election day is Nov. 5. Learn more and find campus voting locations on the UT Libraries site.

Workshopping Your Teaching Statement
The Center for Teaching and Learning is hosting a peer-review workshop where you will have the opportunity to improve your teaching statement with feedback on your own draft, while also sharing suggestions to strengthen others' statements. The workshop will happen over two weeks and drafts are due on Nov. 11 to participate. Learn more.

Research Resources
The Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors' (OVPR) comprehensive, searchable library offers workshops, training and educational tools to help UT researchers navigate research resources, enhance their skills and better position themselves to access grant funding. Multiple units within OVPR have contributed resources to guide faculty and staff in all stages of sponsored funding.

- Research proposal support
- Funder-specific advice
- Using campus research platforms and tools
- Research administration and management

Nov. 15: Last day to apply to graduate and for new doctoral candidates to change registration to dissertation. Nov. 22: Last day a doctoral candidate may hold a dissertation defense for fall 2024. Nov. 25: Last day to change grade status to or from the credit/ no credit basis. Dec. 6: Last day to submit final paperwork to the Graduate School for graduation.
