This timely webinar will address the environmental implications of artificial intelligence (AI) developments in recent years. AI can be a double-edged sword, and while it can make resources and information more accessible and solve some of our climate challenges, it also requires more energy to use and, as a result, increases our carbon footprint.
The event, chaired by Prof Pina D'Agostino, will begin with welcoming remarks from York University VPRI Amir Asif and a keynote speech from the Ontario Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Hon. Jeff Yurek. Dr. Aviv Gaon, IDC Herzliya, will introduce and moderate the panel, which will include Andrea Roszell (Grindhouse), Audrey Lee (Microsoft), Kapil Singhal (Vyntelligence) and Neetika Sathe (Alectra's GRE&T Centre).

Summarizing the 2021 Innovation Economy Council Roundtable
June 10, 2021 by Junghi Woo
The 2021 Innovation Economy Council (“IEC”) Roundtable delivered an exciting discussion around the commercialization of intellectual property in Canada. IP rights can be incredibly important to a business’ corporate strategy both during and after product development. Opening up a corporation’s IP can even be advantageous in fields such as quantum computing.
Junghi Woo is an IPilogue Writer and a 3L JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Australia’s Federal Court is “Not Gonna Cop It”
June 8, 2021 by Shawn Dhue
On April 30, Australia’s Federal Court issued the highest damage award the country has ever seen for a copyright infringement. Australian billionaire and businessman turned politician, Clive Palmer, owes $1.5 million AUD to Universal Music Publishing Pty Ltd (“UMP”) and Songs of Universal, Inc. (“Songs”) for using an altered version of the iconic 1980s Twisted Sister song “We’re Not Gonna Take It” (WNGTI) in his 2019 federal election campaign. Palmer’s right-wing United Australia Party (UAP) slightly changed the lyrics of the hit song, under the title “Aussies Not Gonna Cop It” (ANGCI).
