Thank you so much to those that have already given! You have until December 31 to donate, and 100% of your gift goes to your chosen nonprofit. Thanks to Blue Mountain Pizza for covering credit card fees again this year.
Glory is an ESOL student. On October 1st, she and Nancy, her tutor, celebrated a year of working together. This is the note Glory wrote to Nancy. Thank you for letting us share it!
"I want to express my gratitude for all the hard work and patience this year. I enjoy having you as a tutor; you helped me so much. I have learned so much from you, and I'm happy about it. We will continue learning together on this journey. Thank you!"
The Youth Literacy Program is recruiting for the Igniting Superhero Readers paid internship
Igniting Superhero Readers is a paid internship opportunity for young adults to provide 1:1 tutoring to elementary-age students. The interns work with students in after-school programs in the Asheville area to provide support with reading skills, inspire them to become strong readers and develop a love for reading. The Igniting Superhero Readers internship will kick off the second semester in January and will provide tutoring support through May. We are currently recruiting young adults aged 16-23 to join our amazing team of interns to work with children in our community. Click here to learn more about this internship opportunity and to apply.
This is Charlotte W., a current intern, and in this video, she talks about her experience tutoring kids. Thank you!
Buncombe County has recently welcomed more people from Ukraine. We're working closely with the Lutheran Services Carolinas to provide the newcomers with ESOL classes. We need volunteers who are willing to support them! Tutoring can be done remotely or in person. Tutors don't need to speak Ukrainian. Please get in touch with Laura at laura@lit-together.org if you are interested in volunteering.
In addition, we have a waiting list of 65 people (most of whom are from Latin America) who have been waiting for months for a tutor. Thank you for helping us spread the word!
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library puts books into the hands and hearts of children worldwide. We're mailing a free book monthly to over 5,000 registered children in Buncombe County.
240 people have attended our online volunteer orientation meetings in 2022 so far! Is someone you know ready to work with us? People cansign up online to volunteer or send an email tolaura@lit-together.org.
We had so much fun at the Christine W. Avery Learning Center's Fall Festival! Thanks for having us! Thanks to our Igniting Superhero Readers interns Kaylee and Charlotte for being there and helping us to spread the word about the internship.
THANK YOU to all who have donated items from our Amazon Wishlist!
Many potential volunteers learn about us from Volunteer Match, and the more awesome reviews we have on the site, the better! If you are a tutor and could take a few minutes to submit a review here, you'd be helping us recruit more volunteer tutors, and we'll be very grateful. Thanks in advance! Below is what Michael K., an ESOL tutor, said about working with us! Thank you!
