In the fall of 1980, Texas A&M University at Galveston freshman cadet Amy McAllister Speth ’83 joined the crew to restore Elissa, the 1877 iron-hulled square-rigged barque and official tall ship of Texas. By the end of the restoration, her role included modeling for the figurehead.

Bldg. 311 sat down with Tyler Heffernan '25, a marine engineering technology student that recently returned to Galveston from her commercial sea term. She spent her summer at sea with Flex LNG on a liquid natural gas tanker.

On August 23, Dr. Philip Matich, an instructional assistant professor in the College of Marine Sciences & Maritime Studies marine biology department, received the College-Level Teaching Award at the annual Academic Affairs Forum.

The Jack K. Williams Library on the Galveston Campus recently joined the Texas A&M University Library System. The Jack K. Williams Library is the sixth library to join the system.
