SMPA INAUGURAL FRIDAY FUN WORKSHOPS 
The workshops are free for undergraduates and graduate students and provide opportunities to learn and practice fundamental camera and Adobe Creative Cloud techniques outside of courses. The next session on Basic Panasonic CX350 4K Camera Workflows will be on September 20 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the 5th floor studio

PARIS FOR SPRING BREAK INFORMATION SESSION
Professor Lee Huebner is holding an information session for his course, “Globalization and the Media" (SMPA 3195) and the Spring Break Paris Seminar.
The information session will be held in SMPA 511 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23Applications for the class must be submitted by October 15 through the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. Successful applicants will be enrolled into the course.

APPLY FOR GW ALTERNATIVE BREAKS
The student-led program features 11 trips that provide students the opportunity to become active citizen leaders while building lasting connections with people from various communities. Each trip has its own unique service area and pre-trip education meetings allow students to become informed about the community and issue area they will be working with.
OCTOBER 15
APPLY FOR THE MANHEIM-STERLING UNDERGRADUATE RESERACH PRIZE
The Manheim-Sterling Undergraduate Research Prize is designed to support and encourage outstanding mentored undergraduate research and creative work. SMPA awards two prizes each academic year, one for a Political Communication major and one for a Journalism and Mass Communication major. The 2018-19 Manheim-Sterling Prize Recipients were Grant Sobetski and Jack Nassetta. The application deadline is Tuesday, October 15 at 11:59 pm.

Cheryl W. Thompson sat on the panel “The New New Muckrakers: Investigative Reporting in the Twenty-First Century” at the Indiana University symposium on A New Era for Investigative Journalism.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Justine Coleman, JMC '19, recently joined The Hill as a breaking news reporter. Justine was a 2019 News21 Reporting Fellow and as a senior shared a byline with former SMPA Assistant Professor Debbie Cenziper on the front page of The Washington Post.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HONORS CLIMATE ACTIVIST GRETA THUNBERG
After two weeks of sailing across the Atlantic, Greta Thunberg who is just 16 will visit GW before speaking at the UN Climate Action Summit later this month. Her fierce advocacy in the fight against climate change has made her Amnesty International’s 2019 Ambassador of Conscience. Greta and fellow youth climate activists will take the stage to share their message at the award ceremony honoring Greta Thunberg and the #FridaysForFuture movement. Special guest speakers will include Sophia Bush and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Tickets are free for the GW community but must be claimed in-person at the Lisner Box Office (Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm) using a valid GWID. Limit one ticket per ID.

Josh Campbell, has twelve years' experience working on some of the FBI's highest-profile operations and is now a national security expert for CNN, was special assistant to James Comey. POLITICS AND PROSE & GW PRESENT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON AND CHELSEA CLINTON: THE BOOK OF GUTSY WOMEN
At this Presidential Distinguished event Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will take the stage to celebrate the women who have inspired them throughout their lives. The Book of Gutsy Women, co-authored by the mother-daughter duo, spotlights the courageous women throughout history who stood up to the status quo, asked hard questions, and got the job done.
This event is free for GW students. Tickets, along with a complimentary copy of The Book of Gutsy Women, will be allocated via lottery, which will remain open until Friday, September 20th at 5:00 pm. The results of the lottery will be communicated to all registrants by Wednesday, September 25th at 5:00 pm. Only current GW students are eligible to enter.
