Your monthly update from My Forever Family NSW
Your monthly update from My Forever Family NSW
Dear Friend,
I hope you had a wonderful and safe Easter break and have enjoyed the school holidays. Keeping kids entertained over the holidays can be a job in itself, so if you haven’t had the opportunity to get some rest and recharge your batteries, make sure you take the time to do something for yourself.
While our training program takes a break over the holidays, we are back and ready to go with a range of online and in-person events with subjects that help you gain new perspectives and strategies and meet and share your experiences with other carers.
We’ve listened to your feedback and have added more evening and online webinars so that training fits around your schedule. Make sure you check back regularly on our website for new webinars and training opportunities.
You may have noticed that we are ramping up our in-person events and starting up Information Sessions for potential carers – with upcoming events in Cabramatta and Penrith. Word of mouth is a powerful factor in attracting new carers in our community. They already know a bit about caring, the joys and the challenges. Please talk with family or friends in your community about the upcoming events in Cabramatta and Penrith or contacting our 1300 number below about caring.
We have also had a warm response to our Yarn Sessions, working with Aboriginal community controlled organisations and others to promote caring within a number of communities. All the Yarn Sessions will be in-person events around NSW including a legendary BBQ.
As with all our events, the most successful ones are the ones where you’re involved. Bringing people along, talking about your experience and advocating for kids in out-of-home care to live in safe, nurturing and caring homes. You are the greatest experts and advocates for care and the children and young people who rely on us for their wellbeing and development.
We hope to see you soon at one of our events and/or training sessions.

Head of Advocacy, Engagement and Operations

Yarn Sessions
We’ve had some great feedback from the Yarn Sessions and as a result we have changed our online events to in-person ones around NSW. Take a look at the website and see if we’re coming to a town near you! We want to ensure that Aboriginal children and young people in care stay connected to Country and culture. If you're connected to your local Aboriginal community or know someone who is, bring them along, have a yarn over lunch and learn more about becoming a carer. Visit our website for times, locations and to register.

Encouraging participation in out-of-home care
The Create Foundation has created a practice guide on how to establish child-centred participation and decision making in out-of-home care settings. It’s a great resource for carers to help their kids become empowered and meaningfully involved in the decisions that affect them.
