Welcome To Dr Tiemeier To A New Role In The SBS Department
Dr Henning Tiemeier MA, MD, PhD was recently appointed by the Chan School to serve as the Associate Chair of the department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Tiemeier has completed 5 years of service to the Chan School serving as Professor of Social and Behavioral Science and the Sumner and Esther Feldberg Chair of Maternal and Child Health. Since 2018, he leads the Maternal and Child Center of Excellence at Harvard Chan. This center is one of 13 HRSA-funded Centers of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health in the United States that works to train future leaders in the field. Dr. Tiemeier have worked broadly in pediatric epidemiology for more than 20 years with an emphasis on child developmental research. At Harvard his research focusses on high-risk children, such as preterm children and homeless families.
I am totally thrilled to have Dr. Tiemeier as a part of the leadership team of the SBS department. I am looking forward to working closely with him and with the director of administration to develop plans for the department and discuss departmental needs and challenges as they arise. Dr. Henning brings rich experiences to his role. He received both his medical and sociological degree from the University of Bonn in Germany, and his PhD from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He held academic and administrative positions at Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam before joining the Harvard faculty.

Why should people care about dissemination and implementation science in the field of cancer prevention and control?
Translating evidence-based practices and innovations into real-world practice can be a complex and time-consuming process. Dissemination and implementation science serves as a bridge between research and practice, providing valuable tools for identifying effective strategies to successfully integrate evidence-based practices into real-world clinical and community settings.
The complexity of cancer prevention and control interventions, with multiple components and stakeholders involved, can make successful implementation of new initiatives challenging. Dissemination and implementation approaches provide ways to overcome these challenges, which ultimately improves patient outcomes and reduces healthcare costs associated with cancer prevention and treatment.
