2024 Preseason Softball Memo
Good morning. I'm guessing that this note finds many of you on Spring Break. If so, I hope you enjoy a great week. I wanted to let you know about a few items that are now available for you as the 2024 softball season creeps forward.
Softball Rules Meeting Available on Bound: The 2024 Softball Rules Meeting is live and can be accessed on your Bound account. All head coaches are required to watch the meeting before the first game and it is also recommended that all coaching personnel take time to watch the rules meeting.
Iowa Softball Rule Adaptations: The Iowa rule adaptations are posted in the Coaches and Administrators section of the website and can also be downloaded by clicking here. A reminder - the big adaptation this season is that teams MUST draw the pitcher's lane (chute) in the pitcher's circle. Click here for a reference on how the chute should be drawn.
Softball Classifications: The initial classifications for the 2024 softball season have been posted. Click here to view. Please take some time to review. It looks like some cooperative agreements that were in place in the past are not currently listed. If you are in a cooperative agreement, but it is not listed, it means that paperwork has not been filed by the school and needs to be taken care of immediately. Please be sure to double-check your BEDs numbers, especially if you are in a cooperative agreemment.
NFHS Rule Resources: The NFHS does a great job of providing resources to softball coaches and umpires. I'm going to try to be better about passing these along to you. the NFHS also does a weekly rule interpretation discussion that provides a lot of interesting scenarios and how better to interpret some of the rules. The first scenario can be found by clicking here.
They have also provided some pitching videos that I will also link to on the Coaches & Administrators section of the website.
