Student Spotlight!
V!
V joined School of Rock in the Fall of 2020 and immediately jumped into the Performance Program with the Alt-Good show. Since then they have lended their hands to seven shows including The Who, Lollapalooza, The Beatles, Paramore, Seattle and is currently rocking out in the David Bowie show this season. We can't wait to see where they go next season. In additon to rocking out on stage V has been creating fantastic show posters the last few seasons. Lead instructor Jeff sat down with them to ask a few questions for our Student Spotlight and here is what they had to say.
You've experienced School of Rock as a one on one student and also as a member or the performance programs, what do you like about the SOR programs?
I like being able to see my friends and I feel like it makes my playing a lot better. It allows me to collaborate with people and work together. I like that it's a non judgemental space, everyone wants to have fun and it ends up sounding really good
How would you say your guitar playing has changed since joining SoR?
Before I joined SOR I couldn't use a pick and I couldn't solo at all. Now I know a lot more music theory and have a lot more performing experience. I can push myself but still make it fun and have the results that I want. Learning how to work with other people and learning composition helps me write songs and improvise melodies.
What are your musical influences?
L7, early AFI and Alice In Chains
What do you like about School of Rock?
I like being able to be with my friends, collaborating and I just love playing music, improving my playing and learning how to make friends.
What advice do you have for new students?
Play badly. As long as you're loud, play as badly as you like because you aren't going to improve if you don't start somewhere. Put yourself out there and being unapologetically annoying.
