Scouts Complete Oral Health Projects to Earn Patches DentaQuest extends the opportunity to participate to additional Scouts.
Last November Scout troops from across the country flocked to register to participate in our HERO Program to earn their Oral Health Action HERO Patches. All 2,000 available patches were reserved within a matter of days. Thanks to a generous donation from DentaQuest, the patches were available at no cost for their participation. Since then, 31 troops have completed projects to increase awareness about the importance of oral health and collected more than 4,000 oral care products for children in their communities. In addition, DentaQuest has sponsored another set of 2,000 patches, available exclusively to Scouts in New York, Florida, Texas, and Michigan. “At DentaQuest, we’re working to revolutionize oral health for everyone by redefining prevention and care,” said DentaQuest President and CEO Steve Pollock. “Good health starts in the mouth, so this program is a great match for the work we’re doing in communities across the country. We are proud to have 4,000 more Oral Health Action Heroes leading the way and joining us in the revolution we call Preventistry.” Read more.

America's ToothFairy Awards In the Gap Grants for Children in Need of Urgent Dental Care Thanks to generous donations, our In the Gap Program can provide grants for patients who have insufficient dental coverage for services that cost more than their family can afford. A total of six grants valued at $5,470 were recently awarded to children like Ana, a patient at our Dental Resource Program member clinic, The Children's Dental Center of Greater Los Angeles (TCDC). The 13 year-old has continuously experienced discomfort and orthodontic treatment will be necessary to alleviate some of the pain she has suffered through since early childhood. Although her family has begun the payment process for her braces, being the middle child of a three-child household has its difficulties. "Many of our patients are low-income," TCDC told us. "The ability to alleviate the burden of having to pay for proper oral health treatment will allow us to continue our mission of improving the lives of those we serve." Other children receiving grants included Josue from Kemple Memorial Children's Dental Clinic in Bend, OR, Yessica from Children's Dental Services in Minneapolis, MN, Josue from Kids Community Dental Clinic of Burbank, CA, Dunia from St. Vincent Conway Interfaith Clinic in Conway, AR, and Candice from Vitagliano Orthodontics in West Islip, NY. The event in Charlotte took place March 14th at a local brewery and was sponsored by Spaugh Dameron Tenny and Pinnacle Financial Partners. The event celebrated the results of this year's Smile Drive campaign in addition to featuring a distinguished panel of dentists including Dr. William Linger, Dr. George Betancourt, and Dr. Betty Orr. The second gathering was held last Thursday at the corporate office of the event sponsor, PureLife Dental. Guests enjoyed sushi and happy hour overlooking the gorgeous Santa Monica Beach sunset while learning more about dentistry for children with special needs, the impact of mercury on one's health and the environment, and the challenges of meeting the dental health needs of underserved communities. Panelists included Dr. Bernard Gross, Charles G. Brown, President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry, and Dale Gorman, Executive Director of Kids' Community Dental Clinic, one of our Dental Resource Program member clinics. Proceeds from both events benefit our mission thanks to our gracious Celebration of Smiles sponsors.
