November Membership Meeting Highlights: Obama Presidential Center Development
Over 40 CCAC members gathered for the first in-person CCAC meeting since the start of the pandemic.  Meeting at The Lamar Johnson Collaborative, the group heard an interesting and detailed presentation about the development and upcoming construction of the Obama Presidential Center.  Lori Healey, Roark Frankel and Matt White, all members of the development and construction team, guided the members through a thorough description of the research, planning, development and construction of the project.
The audience was also able to experience the interactive 3-D model of the site – developed by the team at Lamar Johnson Collaborative – and experience the to-be-built center from any angle, with light conditions from any time of day, and get up-close views of each of the buildings and the park-like setting.
Special thanks to Lori, Roark and Matt for a truly engaging presentation and discussion, and to our friends at The Lamar Johnson Collaborative for hosting the presentation and lunch.

Invest South/West Updates
On November 18th, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot joined local community, philanthropic and corporate partners at the South Shore Cultural Center to celebrate the two-year anniversary of INVEST South/West. At this event, Mayor Lightfoot announced an additional $126 million for community improvements. To date, there has been approximately $1.4 billion in city investments, corporate and philanthropic commitments, and planned mixed-use projects through Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
At the event, three new projects were selected from six developed responses to RFPs issues in April. The winning projects include:
  • The Ave, Humboldt Park - a $25.3 million proposal planned for the southwest corner of Chicago and Central Park avenues to be redeveloped a mixed-use complex of residential units, restaurant, gym, daycare space, and new office space for NHS.
  • Team Pioneros, Humboldt Park - a $53.9 million proposal planned for the northwest corner of North Avenue and Pulaski Road to build an entrepreneurial incubator, Latino cultural center, and office space for JGMA.
  • Thrive Exchange, South Shore - a $47.3 million proposal planned for multiple sites near 79th Street and Exchange Avenue to create residential units and rehabilitate the historic Ringer Building for commercial use and condominiums.
Congratulations to the development teams who’s proposals were selected.
The City of Chicago released the INVEST South/West Two-Year Update at the event.
The Chicago Department of Planning and Development requested that CCAC and member firm Perkins & Will assist them in developing this compelling report of the progress of the initiative to date.  Keep an eye out for an even more detailed version that will be released soon.
Congratulations to the team at Perkins & Will for designing and implementing an innovative ideation and document design process that included perspectives and insights of neighborhood residents, corridor managers, developers, business owners, CCAC Team Leaders and other stakeholders in the INVEST South/West neighborhoods.
CCAC thanks its member firms for playing such a pivotal role in INVEST South/West.
