Professor Teri Finneman was granted nearly $10,000 in Press Forward funding from the Wyoming Community Foundation for work to revamp the business model at the Pinedale Roundup in Wyoming.
Assistant Professor Judy Watts recently published "Interracial vs. Interspecies Interactions: Parent and Child Responses to Anthropomorphic vs. Human Characters Involving Racially Coded Themes" in Mass Communication and Society. The preregistered experiment examined parent and child (ages 4-7) responses to storybooks depicting helpful and harmful behaviors toward a protagonist with either human or animal characters. The storybooks featured interracial or interspecies interactions, and research findings suggest that socioemotional lessons embedded in children's entertainment are more likely to be effective for younger audiences with human rather than animal characters. The study was funded by the National Communication Association research cultivation grant.
