Dear Parents and Families,
Greetings from the Hill, where students, faculty, and staff are finally enjoying some warmer weather and where final exams and review boards are just coming to a close. As we head towards summer, I’m writing to provide parents and families with a brief look back at some of this year’s highlights, and to outline the next steps the Division of Student Affairs will be taking in our ongoing efforts to support students’ co-curricular experience at Tufts.

What's Happening Academically

As the semester draws to a close and students work hard to complete exams and final papers, the Advising Deans and Academic Standing Committees prepare to review final transcripts. The vast majority of students have successful semesters, but there are two extremes that merit additional attention:

Dean's List

Liberal Arts students who have completed at least 4 full Tufts credits, with letter grades in at least three, with a GPA of 3.4 are automatically placed on the Dean’s List. Engineering students who have completed the above with a GPA of 3.2 are automatically placed on thr Dean’s List. Their transcripts will note this and they will receive an email notification. Students who wish to have that noted in their local newspapers may request that on SIS.

Academic Standing

Students in Arts and Sciences or Engineering who have not fared so well are reviewed by the Academic Standing Committee. The criteria for academic probation and required withdrawal are explained on our website and in The Bulletin. Parents will be notified if a student is placed on probation or facing a semester or required withdrawal. BFA students are subject to this process for academic review. We work closely with those students to support their use of academic resources so that they may return to good standing in their subsequent semester.

Where Do Tufts Grads Go?

It’s one of the most common questions we receive: “What are my student’s options for life after Tufts?” You’ll be pleased to know that 92% of last year’s graduates were employed, enrolled in grad school, or participating in service or a fellowship within 6 months of graduation.
Other interesting stats from the Class of 2017:
  • 18 employers hired 5+ grads: Amazon, Boston Children’s Hospital, The Broad Institute, EF Education First, Galatea Associates, Goldman Sachs, Google, HubSpot, IBM, J.P. Morgan, Liberty Mutual, Massachusetts General Hospital, McLean Hospital, Microsoft, MITRE Corporation, Teach For America, TripAdvisor, and Tufts University
  • Top 5 grad schools: Tufts, Columbia, NYU, MIT, and Boston University
  • Top 5 cities (outside Boston): NYC, DC, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago
  • 90% completed at least one internship while at Tufts; 72% completed two or more
