March Updates from the Mongan Institute
| |
Mongan ReflectionsFrom the Director
| |
This month we are pleased to announce the launch of two new features reflecting the core mission of the Mongan Institute “dedicated to achieving health equity and improving the lives of people with complex health needs through research and training in population and health care delivery team science.”
First, we launched a new Equity webpage on the Mongan Institute website that highlights work by Mongan Institute faculty in health equity and health disparities. Examples include Dr. Joseph Betancourt and Aswita Tan-McGrory documenting the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, and access inequities associated with language and technology barriers. Mental health inequities are featured in community-based research by Dr. Margarita Alegría and her team and in health policy research by Dr. Vicki Fung. We also highlight efforts by junior faculty members including Dr. Adjoa Anyane-Yeboa using technology to improve access to colorectal screening, and Dr. Efren Flores applying novel approaches to studying COVID-19 health disparities using chest and vascular radiographic imaging. These are just the beginning of examples that will be featured as we grow this Equity webpage and resource.
Another new initiative is a monthly feature in which Dr. Alegría, Director of the Disparities Research Unit, will share insights on issues that shape health and health disparities. Her newsletter will be published in English and in Spanish and will include the opportunity to ask questions and share potential solutions.
As always, we also invite you to view this month’s selected awards, recognitions, publications, and accomplishments of our faculty and staff. In future “Reflections” we will be profiling Mongan’s different centers. So stay tuned! In the meantime, I hope you will take some time to enjoy spring’s final arrival as we look forward to new beginnings in the coming year.

University of Utah Grant Writing Coaching
